hey guys, ive recently done an engine conversion and gearbox conversion. problem with the gearbox side of things is the clutch wont engage, motor isnt running although when you engage clutch put in 1st (while car is still) fine, whilst still engaging the clutch and people trying to push its in gear and wont move as if the clutch isnt in when it is...does that in all gears, doubt the car has to be on for this to work but i dont know what to do, i dont want to run the engine in then wont be able to drive it, my mechanic did it where i bought a conversion kit off ebay, brand new excedy heavy duty clutch, everything else off the kit just standard mx5 box... any help appreciated
If your mechanic did it & it doesn't work, I'd be talking to him & getting him to sort it out.

I had the clutch master cylinder go a few years ago when I had a manual VL. Had no clutch action at all. Check the clutch fluid is OK. Could also be a problem with the slave cylinder.
lol yeah... anyways if it STILL binds(wont wove) in NUETRAL then problem is either hand brake, or diff or shaft or box internals, or incorrectly fitted clutch assembly (input shaft and clutch JAMMED onto eachother (clutch plate back to front dont laugh peeps i have seen it before...)....
if in nuetral and it binds up;
make sure clutch is bled of air COMPLETELY
if not air then check master cylinder is pushing fluid out of hose at gear box end
if pressure and no air (and no leaks of clutch fluid duh) then clutch is faultily enstalled...
if in nuetral it does NOT bind up;
make sure clutch is bled of air COMPLETELY
check that clutch is moving (noise when pedel depressed from housing area)
check that (hand brake off and with bolts taken OFF diff to driveshaft connection and shaft is loose (hanging)) that rear wheels turn freely
if no check hand brake and rear calipers and diff for faults
if yes put car in nuetral and check if shaft can be turned at back of gear box (output shaft of gearbox)
if not box or input shaft siezed to clutch or spigot bearing...
the internals of a gearbox dont generally lock up/bind unless the thing is completely shagged (laygear failure or two gears selected at once) there fore for the above i "assumded" box is ok
so if you pull box out because i said clutch is siezed onto shaft or spigot, then also check that in nuetral you can turn the input shaft while holding the output shaft still (box out of car)
good luck...
