$300 is pretty standard good deal for a D34 yellowtop these days mate, but their Deka Intimidators are overpriced, are a slightly better battery.

Optimas have thier benefits. For example I left my headlights on for 3 frickin' days once (basically turned car off while outside car, so it didn't shut headlights off with drivers door opening, then went on holiday), came back and car has 4V, yes FOUR. Hooked it up to battery charger, charged it up and it went fine. Two years later its still going fine. Try doing that in a Supercheap battery.

As far as I know VKCommo is still a dealer for Optima Direct Australia. I bought one off of him around a month or two ago, despite the fact he doesn't have a sponsor section on the site anymore, he'll still do you a good deal. Shoot him a PM with the link.
Don't take my word for it, but I'm sure if you link him to that site, he will match/beat that price on a battery sent directly from the manufacturer.

Great bloke to deal with and supporting him will ensure that he continues to help us JC members out

My ute's battery was dead flat for over a year, and I mean so dead that nothing happened when turning the key etc, and I threw it on the charger overnight and she started first go the next day, and it wasn't even heavy duty, and that was a SCA brand one. But, as shit as they are, as long as it runs the car lol, i just make sure I leave my lights off hahaha

Normally a standard battery, when it goes flat, like below 10V, will never hold a charge again.

With heavy discharge on a battery, the panels inside of it heat up and warp, and if they touch it leaves that cell useless, and basically the battery useless... Also, with a heavy discharge, particles flake off and collect at the bottom, harshly reducing the life of the battery..

Here are some of the facts from back in the old SS section...

    Did you know:

    - Optima batteries last up to 15 years, opposed to an average 2-4 years of a standard lead acid battery.

    - Optima Batteries have a much higher CCA rating to standard lead acid batteries, meaning they can discharge for a longer period.

    - As Optima Batteries are deep cycle batteries, they do not suffer anywhere near the damage that lead acid batteries receive when they are fully discharged.

    - Optima Batteries are fully sealed, meaning they can not only be mounted upside-down or on their sides (generally in a boot mounting position), but they also do not let off the harmful and explosive gasses that Lead Acid batteries do during charge and discharge.

    - Being sealed, this also means maintenance free for the life of the battery.

    - Optima Batteries are able to handle 15x the vibration a standard lead acid battery can handle

    - Charging an Optima battery via a 100 amp alternator from 100% flat (10.5 volts) will only take around 35 minutes. This example is for Optima D27F Deep cycle batteries.

    - Optima Deep cycle batteries are also rated very accurately in amp hours (C20 rate). Most deep cycle batteries maybe rated at 100 amp hours, but you can only discharge 70% of this, where as with Optima Deep cycle batteries you can discharge 100%.

    - An Optima battery has a shelf life of 12 - 18 months, as opposed to a flat plate battery that may sulphate in 3 -6 months.

It's the recharge that kills them, charge them too quick or too many times and they'll die.

Nothing is infallible but they're generally pretty good with a better warranty than most batteries.
