Default get rid of VL key number

If you have any original VL keys, on the black plastic part there is or was a number stamped
a locksmith says he could still cut a key from that number, without having the key
so if the number is still showing, might be an idea to record it and remove it somehow

I have a number on mine, next to GM, says "Vxxxx", where x = different numbers.

Might have to start using the spare key as my main key!

when new, the VL also came with a "service key" which worked everything but the glovebox lock and the bootlock on sedans and the rear tailgate on wagons. if you still have this key, it can cause confusion

BTW the VL replacement key blanks cant cope with twisting in the ign lock and soom break

re breaking into cars, my VL passenger doorlock was broken from attempted forcing then later repaired when someone tried to force the lock a second time

Yep we are not the ones you need to worry about..............

But there is nothing stopping someone seeing your key number, getting a key cut at a Locksmith and stealing your car......
Although not much quicker than a thief could steal it without a key LOL.....

Lol what offence? My car IS a ferrari in my eyes!!

No, sadly not, BUT I like to think so lol.

But, it's like, if someone wants your car, they will take it. One way or another.

As i locksmith i am very surprised you still have your original key haha its very rare that someone has one that has lasted that long and if they have its almost like a toohpick at the end and the locks so worn a paddle pop stick will usually start it :/ this being said a vl's security isnt very flash to begin with0

I bought a new lock set with keys already cut (aftamarket). It only had the two normal keys and not the valet key (skeleton key). They didn't have GM on them but I would of liked a genuine set. I took it to the local lock smith down the road from me and wanted him to tumble the glove box so the keys could open everything. He asked me if I had the valet key and said nah I dnt. There impossible to get. I waited a min while he went out back and he came back with a box of about 500-700 brand new sets ( no bullshit) of genuine keys with the valet key (3 in all) and said do u want me to tumble them to a new genuine set. Wot a stupid question. CAUS I DO. And yes all locks work with a single key even glovebox, and the valet key only works in the doors and ignition not glovebox or boot. They called it the valet key cause that's the key u give to the valet parking bloke. That way he cnt get in your glovebox to take ur cd's or boot to take ya subs or wot have u.

I haven't tried to use anyone elses keys on my VL yet, or a paddlepop stick for that matter, but here's my key's condition. I do have a spare, which looks sort of less worn, but this key looks alright.
