im planning on buying my cousins old VL, it has had a bit of work done but just the basics like extractors, i think it has a 1.5" exhaust with front muffler. 17" alloys paint is in alright condition, it has been resting for a while now (year or 2) and we tyred to start it a while ago and it wouldn't fire up, almost did until we finally got off our arses and put more fuel into it, then she turned over just fine and ooh it sounded sooo tough, he has a VY SS use, and the Vl sounded so much tougher. but yeah this is my question, how much $$$ to replace the back window, not the window that you wind down but the bit behind it, the far most window, i dont know the proper name. At the moment it just has a garbage bag sticky taped over it lolnot the car but just a pic to look at so what im saying comes across correctly.
so yeah is it a hard job, could I do it with some help or would it need to be professionally done, if so any ideas on the costs?
thanks
get 1 from the wreckers and do it your self
so its not a hard task, could anyone offer some instructions, basic or in detail would be appreciatedOriginally Posted by gungazza
do you mean the fixed one or the non-widing one in the door? the one in the door is a piece of piss. the other one is sealed so you would have to buy the appropriate seal i would imagine. i havnt even done anything to the furthest back one so cant help unless its the one in the door.
its the fixed one, so yeah i can imagine it beign a difficuilt job.
ok pop off the metal frame around it n then u needa score a line in the old seal to rmove the old window use leathergloves the worst thing u want is to cut ur self pick them up at ne big w or kmart in the nursery departent there just garderning gloves wen u have fulli removed the glas wit either a chisel or a screwdriver,
ok now wit tht dun place in ur new windo gently dont worry about prints cheapo windex does the stuff thn get a bottle or tube of shellys no more gaps...to use in the shower cos u dont want water coming in clear will do fine dont worri about black thn wen thts dry reseal it again n thn wait again (instrcutions r on the tube)(ull also need a clogging gun {ur old man may have one}) thn wen shes all dry pop on the metal frame again n bobs ur uncle make sure the seal has no holes cos if it rans damn thtt shit comin thru if possible do it sumwhere where ur under a cover so if it does ran ur sweet
it's called the rear quarter window. The plastic surround is screwed so don't just lever it. it'll break easy so be careful. just do what anfsvl said. when you put the surround back in DON"T over tighten the screw(s) as you'll crack the plastic. it might not crack straight away either. but after a few km's with the vibration she'll snap.
thansk guys, that really halped and ill prob do it myself now.
