hi all,
my vl has been sitting around for about 12mths now, had to put another motor in and never got around to fitting the box till recently. About 8 wks ago I put in 10 bucks worth of fuel the engine was running fine but this arvo i wouldn't start, i undid one of the fuel lines and the fuel coming out was a sort of dirty green/yellow colour. Does anyone know why its this colour just so i know. I'm draining it out atm.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Stevo

lol u put diesel in instead of petroljokes maybe its gone stale
yellow colour hey??? hmmm one of ur mates pissed into ur tank dude.????
very weird, probably something in the tank reacting with the fuel, not the fuel itself.
my web sitestuff on the XF throttle body conversion, calais interior and lots of other junk!
I saw a woman do that to a new 4WD in Mildura once, boy was she unhappyOriginally Posted by boona15

tinted like so: unleaded is blue, leaded should be red, premium is purple.
Im not sure if any of the new blends are yellow but stale petrol will go a pale yellow/brown tint and have a totall different smell to petrol. 8 weeks in the right conditions is enough to taint a small amount of fuel.
yep benzine, isopropic alcohole, turpentine, lawsuit coming:Originally Posted by burnz

According to my LPG handbook petrol starts to go bad after 6 weeks..Originally Posted by dannc
For the other guy, I reckon just drain it and run a few tanks of 98+ Petrol through it. Possibly with some additives..
dannc give it a run every now and then if you can. moisture can also form in and around petrol as it starts to break down.
if you cant give it a run, and its off the road for more than 2 months i would personally drain it (i know that it hurts losing a full tank...) otherwise you risk gumming bits and pieces up further along the system.
if you do decide to run it you may notice a lack of power, may not run, may run for a while then things start going wrong or no difference at all! its a gamble, you either lose $60 of petrol and be pretty safe or keep it and risk hundreds of dollars in other bits.
Thx, I have been starting it when I can, but the alternator died (so I thought) & ment that I need to jump it all the time cus I was too slack to pull it out, so it hasnt been "run" just started & left idleing for a whiles. turns out after I did pull alt out on the weekend, that its fine, stupid battery & charger were lying to me. All bar 1 cell had shit themselves in the battery & the charger was still charging it & reproting it as full so I lent the blame to the alternator unfairly! So Im puttin the alt back in & new battery & Ill putter around in it again.
I think Ill empty the tank & refill it just to be safe.
D.
Yeh there was a petrol selling REALLY cheap fuel, so stupid me filled up a tank with it at 1.12 litre and went and told my mate that i found a servo with cheap fuel.
Anyway i found out that he sells it cheap coz if outta date. *$@!%$#*& GRRRR.
Never heard of petrol being yellow or going yellow.
Most diesl fuel bowsers have a bigger nozzle so cant fit in an unleaded tank.
