the steering for my 87 berlina is unusually sensitive... really strange. Dont know what would be causing it and i feel as if it is going to come back to haunt me if it isnt fixed soon
I had 1 a couple of years ago that was very light on the steering (as in I could over do a U turn with 1 finger), I spun it around at a busy intersection in the wet in front of LOTS of people and felt like a total dick, I suspect it had a lot to do with worn suspension bushes, ball joints etc...., SOLD!
describe it better and you should get an answer.
Nobody wants to play with me
as in, when i move the wheel say... 3cm to either side the car moves as if i was turning the wheel about 90 degrees... and when it happens it happens so quickly it scares the shit out of me sometimes i find myself in another lane without noticing....
Get the wheel alignment checked, excessive toe-in can do that.
What were you driving before the Vl.
What width are your wheels.
VLs are totally different to VN onwards.
a VB commodore (no power steering)... But driving my dads 2011/12 hilux and mums honda civic it just seems completely wrong.
they are 215s
I would say you are just not used to the extremly light VL power steer which is totally different to a VB non power steer or a much later Hilux.
My daily is a VZ and it is really good to drive as opposed to my wifes VL which is basically as you have described your's. After driving mine I find hers almost dangerous and with 8" wheels it tracks the road.
If its not mechanical sometimes a smaller (aftermarket) steering wheel can give a different feeling
get an alignment as the wheels will be fighting each other and trying to track off.. hence it feeling like its sensitive
wheres the best place for that?? Midas or something?
cmon u serious...?
Alignment is about $40 and recommended when u get new tires on the front... Bridgestone, Tyre power, Jax Quickfit, Goodyear Auto care, Bob Jayne, Beaurepairs.. to name a few...... Heck Kmart Tyre and Auto
it can be knocked out as easy as breaking and u hit a pothole
Before you take it for an alignment, phone around and ask if they have a person competant in aligning a VL.
Also, impress upon them that you want the steering wheel centred THEN the wheels aligned, not the other way round.
If you have not already gathered, I have very little faith in wheel aligners, esoecially tyre shops.
I suggest you go to a suspension specialist not a tyre shop.
i never had a prob... i only go to JAX quickfit and i stand and watch.... long time customer.. the fella always get the steering wheel centered then clamps it in place first and then adjusts under car and then takes it for a lap of the block to c if centered
