vl engine
Hi guys, I have a 87 vl Calais sitting in my garage with a rb30 non turbo with 150,000 original k's. Looking at dropping a v8 into it or getting the rb30 going much better. Any suggestions on what you guys think I should put in it?

unless your going to all the trouble of putting an LS motor in it, keep the RB30 and go turbo, doesnt take much for an RB30et to destroy a 5ltr, even if it is injected 5ltr

i done a 304 5lt engine swap into my vl,and love it.(check my walky thread plenty of info on their and pm me if you need any more.
as above post if you want a faster engine there's better out there just up to you,
you can't beat the sound of a 5lt

Really there is only a few alternatives worth doing that could possibly even take the first step in redeeming a VL. They would be a LS1, 6.0 something or other or a LS3. Anything else and you should just cut your losses and crush the car now.

I was thinking an ls2, but then heaps of people have been saying turbo the rb30. I've got another vl with a supercharged Buick v6. So thinking sell that and do the engine transplant on the Calais.
I know my work mate hated it when my little rb30et that could choped his big ve senator to pieces....mmm yep what a shame job i told him not to bother!
Depends how deep your pockets are.you could spends lots putting an ls1 in then spend another small fortune trying to get the best from it.or you could spend a small fortune and purchase a vlt conversion.
What sort of money would I be looking at for an ls2 conversion as a pose to a turbo on the rb30.

you would probably have to sell your vz to fund it lol.
fairly big bucks still search it you will find a lot about it,if you really love the vl do it or just sell it and buy a commy with a ls2 already in it much easier.
the turbo gear wouldn't set you back to much a lot cheaper.

There a gen3 6spd calais on ebay with something like a 6k buy it now price.thats a good deal think he said he spent 14k on the job
Well I want to sell my vl berlina with the super v6 in it, got an aero kit on it, should get a bit for it hopefully. Want to sell that to do the Calais.
