Default How hot do your VLs get?

hey guys, just wonderin how hot they get as mine never seems to, it only ever gets upto the second bar from the bottom and when you stop the car and come back half an hour later its basically cold again. I thought about the thermostat being stuck open but the book says that causes it to take time heating up where as mine gets upto the second bar in the first 5 mins odd with easy driving.

mine gets past a quarter, looking on a third of the way up. its a v8 so it takes longer to get there but does get hotter. (same sized radiator with larger amount of cooling to do).

good idea, how hard is it to add a bigger radiator, just pick up one from the wreckers? im interested in doing it because a mechanic told me that that's the major problem for VLs, the head cracking

Yer mine had a brand spanking new water pump on it when i got it tho it does get a little hotter when its being thrashed, thatd be normal tho. about due for a coolant change in fact, gonna need like 5 litres of antifreeze, the whole system takes 10 litres according to the book

Mine used to run real cool but I think the timing may be out now coz it gets to 1/2 on hot days and in traffic

Always sits on 1/2. If it gets higher { even 1 bar } then i check the level. But its usually 30 degrees here. Summer will be no fun!

wouldnt have a clue about what actual temperature they get to in degrees, the old mans car has the temp actually printed on it rather than plain bars, even the litres in the fuel tank but thats the europeans for ya. i had a look in the haynes book but that doesnt mention any numbers either. good question tho, wouldnt mind knowing myself
