Not legal and stupid on the street.
Welcome to the internet where people have opinions that you might not like
1. eBay
2. $80
3. Snap axles, more wear on rear suspension/bushes, tyres
4. If you are mechanically competent.
5. Yes.

5. Are they legal? NO and as stated previously, stupid on the street.
a ford axle conversion will last longer for burnouts
1) Best place too buy? eBay as stated, local trading post, wreckers maybe.
2) Average price on them? Depends where you get it I guess, as stated, anywhere from $80, $100, $150 whatever someone wants to put on it. Less than $100 though I'd think.
3) Can they do damage? Sure can. I'm not going to list everything they can do since it's been posted, but yeah it can/will damage stuff.
4) Can I install them myself? Sure can, easily enough I guess.
5) are they legal. Sure aren't. I won't say it's stupid since it's the driver not the car that makes things go wrong, but they can put you into bad situations.

get one...
Will wear your tyres down excessively also! Especially when cornering!
If anything, I'd just go for a good quality 28 Spline LSD with a good ratio depending on what you want. Low ratio just for cruising and highway economy, or a high one for spinning the wheels.
Cheers!
Jim.
1) Best place too buy? As above, ebay is probably the cheapest.
2) Average price on them? 80 is pretty much the usual price... some are 100... but honestly, the $80 is fine, you wont notice a difference by spending the extra.
3) Can they do damage?
-Your upper control arms will eventually wear out if they are the stock items, but as soon as you replace them with polyurethane bushes you shouldn't have any problems.
-More tyre wear depending on how you drive etc, if you drive it like a granny you wont notice any extra wear, but if you drive it hard you will (even driving an lsd hard will wear out your tyres more than normal)... Even more so if your doing burnouts etc (which is one of the the main reasons people get a spool anyway)
-People say you will snap axles but on 28 spline axles its not really a problem, if you have a 25 spline diff I would probably reconsider buying a spool because the axles are pretty weak OR get a 28spline diff
4) Can i install them myself? if your keeping the stock gears: Sure, vn_luke has a tutorial here (was a while ago so some pics might be missing) but its pretty straight forward, just google it. Also remember a tutorial being on a ford forum and on an R31 skyline forum.
Changing gears as well: If you have to ask then I would say you cant do it, its a bitch of a job and best left to a diff pro
5) are they legal. Nope, they're illegal but since when has that excuse stopped people from modding cars? If your mind is set, then go put one in..... Don't let the haters change your mind....
But if your not sure what you want yet, search on this forum because there is a lot of info about spools vs lsd's (despite a lot of members being 1 eyed, some members do generally provide good info from their personal experience)
Good luck mate and tell us how you go![]()
Thanks heaps guys. I'll let you know if/when i get one!
cheers~
