airflow meter , check the connections on the plug are still connected and arnt all gummed up , if not swap with a mate for 5 mins to check before spending money
also remove the petrol tank cap put your ear to it and get some one to turn the key on and lisen for the internal fuel pump priming , also check the exst pump
Yeah, if the fuel pump is working fine you will hear it humming. If it's really noisy then it's likely on its way out. When my VL starts and running, the pump is quite loud and you can hear the engine variate on its rev's! I can hear the pump humming up and down and can tell the pump is just about dead.
Also, check those 4 wires that go to the connector that comes off the distributor. The VL I got from my brother had one of the wires "earth" just hanging there, and one of the crank trigger wires totally disconnected/broken. Caused the car to idle like poop and was only running on 4 cylinders and sometimes totally dying due to the earth not being properly connected. Once I replaced those wires, the engine had idled properly.
Cheers!
Jim.
check for air leaks in your air intake tube between the air flow metre and the throttle body. any leaks in this area will cause the engine to do exactly as you have described.
Nobody wants to play with me
just got bak from work and changed the afm, problem solved
cheers guys
