it's hit and miss using a 2nd hand cas, may work but for how long? keep in mind they're 25-26 years old now and electronics subjected to that environment do wear out often.
i went through 4 2nd hand ones last time i replaced one before i found a good one
i'd get a new cas and bearing and replace it.

they can cause lots of issues when they're failing, from as you described running rough at low rpm then coming good, running great down low then breaking down and backfiring at high rpm, running like crap all over the rpm range, no spark at all, easiest test is to throw another in and see how it goes, trial and error starting with the common things first.

spark plugs, dizzy cap, rotor button, leads, cas, coil, fuel filter, fuel pump, afm, fuel pressure reg all these can cause similar issues but the no spark now narrows it down

last cas i had fail was causing preignition at about 4200 rpm, had me stumped as i was retuning the ecu at the time and thought i'd put to much advance in that area, went back to a stock ecu and it was still doing it, ran fine, didn't miss a beat just the issue of pinging at a certain rpm at wot...

it went like this for a few months then it finally gave up, one of those i can't find the issue as it makes no sense, i'll wait till something else goes wrong and then i'll know what it is.

fixed all that and it was going great then winter sometimes when i went to start this car after fixing the cas and afm problems it'd turn over and not fire, no tracho movement, no spark, fuel pump would initially kick in then stop, 5 minutes later it'd go or it'd take till the next day to go, traced that to water in the ecu, now it's summer it's starting first go everytime.
has it been wet where you are lately? maybe it's water leaking into the ecu? can cause similar problems then it dries out and it's all good.

i've accepted mine is a $500 car with character and mood swings, reckon i'd be moody aswell if i'd done 450000 kms lol

also the tf rodeo's have the same cas if your going 2nd hand

I just want this bloody thing running right so i can turbo the f*cker and get back on the road
