    Default cat converter

just a quick question for a mate of mine, he has a vl turbo calais and recently bought it off sum dude in canberra, as it appears the exhaust has been modded, its 3" from the turbo back and runs to a hotdog and out to a rear muffler, no cat converter unless the hotdog is not a hotdog and is a cat but it doesnt have the holes in the bottom like my vn had but anyways, he wants to know is there anything wrong with getting a vn cat converter and putting two 3" to 2 1/4" reducers on the cat converter and then welding that up to the 3 "exhaust? he is worried the exhaust goin from a 3" into the 2 1/4" cat and then out to the 3" exhaust might be fair bad for it. any1 got any help or advice they can give him ? i told him to go buy a 3" cat but he is convinced into puttin the cat off the commodore if it wont cause a problem, another one of those money saving ideas :P anyways lataz

I don't know about changing to a 2 1/4 cat but if he doesn't have one u'd sure as hell be able to tell, just the loudness in the exhaust. I just got my cat replaced the other day, made a horrible vibrating noise...i had a rectangle looking cat with the holes in and it got replaced with a smaller looking cylinder looking cat; still 2 1/2, when i asked the bloke, the holes are only a heat protector thing.

actually his car is not loud at all, it was probably as loud as my vn with a 2 1/2" cat back, and now that u said ur cat is a cylinder that makes me wonder coz the exhaust is 3" comes off the turbo and then reduces down to 2 1/2" and then follows on to a cylinder which i thought looked like a hotdog and then on to a rear muffler, oh well he has got it booked in to have looked at on monday so i guess he will find out soon enuf, he gave me the wrong dimensions of the exhaust b4 so thats why this post has different dimesnions to the original lol, probably wasnt a good idea talkin to him while he was drunk hahaha cheers jules
