    Default viscous fan clutch

it seems this can eventually fail and may result in overheating on hot days, some say you shouldnt be able to spin the fan more than 1 revolution by hand if the viscous clutch is still OK
a bloke grabbed my fan, wearing gloves, I might add by hand with the engine idling and stopped the fan but I dont know if this could be done with the clutch still OK
anyhow I replaced it with a non genuine one, a hell of a job , why are all the clearances so damned tight on the VL?
with factory air cond of course you get an extra electric fan at the front
    any comments?

With all clutch fans, i usually get the engine at operating temperature, let it idle for 15 30 minutes or so, making sure that the fan should be working, then just roll a newspaper up and put it carefully into it, from the passenger side. If you can stop it, it's usually not doing it's job. Of course the thermostat has to be doing it's job to get it to temperature too.

no, they dont bolt straight in

You need to modify the housing that they are in, where the filler neck is and also where the top hose goes.

I have a set of them that I was going to use, but have been recommended by 3 different mechanics to go back to the clutch fan.

It is something that you could do, but you would just need to take your time to make it look good.
