    Default help please

I got a VL that had been dumped for a source of parts, the engine will start and run at a slow idle, but only of the plug from near the aircleaner is removed, ( oxygen sensor?)
the engine surges badly if the idle speed is increased

the engine wont start at all with that plug in place, and if running, immediately stops when the plug is pushed in any ideas on what is wrong please?
the best way to start the 6 cly VL seems to wait until the fuel pump stops working then start with your foot off the accelerator, any other ways to try starting the 6?

the chassis number on the suspension tower has been groumd off, does it appear anywhere else on the car?

early holdens had secret chassis numbers in hidden locations as an antitheft thing, any secret numbers on the VL??

you have to turn the key to reds, wait for the primary fuel pump to prime the the secondary then it should start straight away. if the car dies when you put the plug in it means that sensor is stuffed. it's the Air Flow Meter (AFM). they aren't exactly cheap but would NOT recommend getting a 2nd hand one. Now for the chassis number... Is the actual compliance plate missing too? If so someone might have done a chop shop job with a stolen car. Is the engine number ground off the block too?

yes all other numbers have been removed, where is the engine number on the block? is it on a raised machined surface?

it should be on a raised machined surface, i emphasise should. if there is no compliance plate or numbers anywhere i don't think you'll be able to put the car on the road. she'll only be good for parts. Did you find the car or something?

the sensor would be broken, you could try one from the wreckers, it will be a lot cheaper than new and will probably work

Someones pride and joy now getting sold for parts. Not good mate.

Apart from that everyone else is on the money, afm would be screwed... But no point fixing it because theres no chance in hell that car is getting registered again

it was the airflow sensor, I swapped the airflow sensor from my other VL and it started up and I drove it around the backyard, it was dumped and siezed by the local council who sold it to me by tender, I guess some other more expensive VL may have been stolen and rebirthed using my cars numbers??
however there were other dumped old commodores there, we only have 1 local wrecker who bothers with VLs as the others all say they are too old, so if you have storage space, getting a VL similar to yours for parts may be an idea

theres no way a bad airflow sensor can be fixed to hust get your car home is there?
