I did post this in the electrical thread with no responses, so i will add it to the VL section, hope someone can help....
friend just fitted an engine loom to his VL turbo, the TPI has two plugs the loom only one, had a look at a few others some have one plug and others two, what is the difference? will we have to get a throttle body with a single plug? will it make a difference, it is running very rich when hot to we will replace the coolant temp sensor as well, also the knock sensor is missing off the engine, as the timing is set at the distributor what is this knock sensor for? any help would be great.
1 grey on wires and 1 black to the tps?
the 2 plugs are for auto the single plug is manual, you can use the auto on a manual fine. manual won't work properly on an auto though obviously.
rb30 tps is just a simple switch that changes state between idle and open throttle so i doubt this is your problem, easy to check with a multimeter though, probe the pins and see if they change from being open to closed circuit and vice versa on the other pin, think the middle pin is the common but i may be wrong, been a while since i've looked at one.
the knock sensor detects pinging/pre ignition and saves the engine from death if it's detected.
OK, thanks, so it looks as if he has to find another loom then, at least that is a start, many thanks.........
