    Thumbs down Brakes somewhat useless

hey guys (and girls) just wanna ask how you guys find your brakes as i find them useless at the best of times.. whatsmore they make a screaming noise if you get them the least bit hot. pulled them out on the weekend and they were basically shiny from the stuffed rotors aswell. sanded them back taking care not to breathe back the asbestos but after a quick run to the beach they were at it again. do you guys (and girls) have probs with yours or did i just get a bad batch? anyway ive booked it on friday to get all new performance rotors and shoes, prob a good idea the way i drive!!

I Believe u can get some sort of glue/lube that will stop the squeaks, a bad batch?; How old are your breaks if they have asbestos in them, most breaks on vl's these days would just about be up for new ones, how fast u going before they start feeling hot?

Could be the piston in the calliper applying to much when brakes are off; could be out of line. And if your getting new ones, don't get shit ones; they wear too fast and leave alot black shit all over your mags.

Could just be a matter of new pads. Slotted rotors would even get rid of it.

yeah you can get a spray to stop squeaky brakes. But its probably just a dodgy pad choice i'd say.
    who knows though.

Is it easy enough to change over to slotted rotors? And would the cheaper ones be alright cuz i don't want to fork out for a car that im not sure on whether im gonna keep.

if you dont think youll keep it i wouldnt bother. you wont pick up any massive amount of difference unless your racing them (heat etc).
Ive never had any problems with mine. they seem to pull up pretty well and are nothing special....

the slotted rotors will help deglaze the pads.. and that should help with the noise, jules i think its about 250ish for the two. however supercheap had them for 100 each recently?

Yeah they did, that's y i asked if they'd be worth it.

But about keeping the car; do you guys think it's worth keeping if i was to sell it, it would be late next year and would only get bout 3000-3500 for it and everything under the hood has been re-con or replaced, i want to do up a vl but if i was to sell it i'd probably never buy another 1 to do up. And because everything under the hood is now good, it'd prob turn into a rice boys car until the engine f**ks up or i win alot of money , interested in buying a house atm too so kinda puts things out of place. So any opinions from others will be be great.

    brakes -
you can get a red adhesive (Brake Squeek Stop)... kind of like ultra blue and various other adhesives. We used to use it a lot at ford for the XR Wankers that complained about everything.... rub it on the back of the pad where it sits against the caliper and that should fix it... if it doesnt... just turn the hose up hard and hose em down... dirt and road grime cause a lot of squeeking noises to brakes.... so does not washing tire shine off tires properly (learned that the hard way)
It alseodepends on how grooved or warped your discs are.... grab a disc micrometer (not very expensive... but very useful) and measure them up im not sure what the specs are for VL's but the good book should say and if its at least 3-4ml above the minimum its worth sending them off to get machined.... a lot cheaper and they only take about 0.2ml off your discs

    Doing up your VL -
Dont bother with a Turbo.... it causes too many problems.... drop a good old 8 in there but then you might aswell upgrade your brakes now
