ive done some searching but amazed to not be able to find this. if it has been discussed please point me to the thread.
but basicaly ive had rthe same ideah im sure almost everyone without a calais has, what is needed to put the indicator moulds and flip lights and front nose bitonto my 87 exec? and anything else needed to do a front end conversion?
whatelse is different about the calais exterior and the non calais?
as far as i know its the front lights, grill, calais on front bumper neer healight, tail lights, skitring under doors, calais badges.
is this all.. exterior only
the calais front ends you can buy for 1000 and above ive been looking my self but found it to expensive for a first mod on my car

the headlights on the calais are the same, to put the calais nose on is pretty simple you take off the front bumper and the whole nose part is held on with bolts, the trickiest part would be to hook up the motor for the eyelids but personally i think they look shit when they are up and my high beam dosnt work so i'd prefer to leave them down without a motor ( that would be a defect though)
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!
would it impare the headlight beam if they were left down constantly??
ive thought of getting the indicator moulds then just making eyelids level with them.
you can get fibreglass eyelids that look like calais ones - in that they give the "lidded" look to the lights, but dont "flip". C
alais eyelids main probs are, finding decent one that wont cost you the whole car to buy, finding one in which eyelids still "flip", getting one with loom attached, & then fitting wiring loom.
I looked at it too, but like others decided that it was a huge effort & cost for not so much gain. I will buy a calais instead.
D.
ive done it. very simple. i posted my steps on here awhile back dont know what thread though. mine dont pop up, i think u need a relay from a calais loom. It looks tough with the lights on.
Basic steps are as follows(what i can remember anyway)
Undo all the bolts holding on the nose cone.
Removed bumper, and top bar moulds.
Removed headlights(needed these out to undo the screws holding on the existing eyebrows from the guards.)
Fitted the new eyebrows, refitted headlights, fitted new nose cone(i was left with 2 bolts as the new nose cone had 2 less holes. why??no idea!!)
Refitted bumper and top moulds.
Fitted the new pop up covers and the new center cover.(only do the screws up lightly, as the need to space them out evenly so u get a good line)
Once lined up nice, retighten screws, and tuck away wiring loom for the motor.
Enjoy u new look, I do.
Notes- be careful removing ur top bar moulds, they will be sunbaked and brittle. New non gen replacements are around $80 un painted.
When refitting ur front bar, do it up lose, so u can adjust it to get a good line, then retighten.
Check to see u havent left any bolts out.
Hope this helps.
Personally i would'nt bother cos i rekon calais front ends look bollocks thats why i bought a berlina. :b:
yeah alot of people i have talked to dont like the calais look. Mines all white with a group a grill so it looks pretty sweet. doesnt have the square pattern grill like the normal calais.
