    Question what is this engine!!

    My VL came from the factory with a 308 engine number VJ577034 is this a SLR5000 engin?

    same kinda motor slr5000 is not the motor it is just a torano with a kit and a 308 5l

    just the normal V8.
    and may i add, SLR5000 look sooo gooood with the dorp tank i saw a few today!

    vl came out with a carby fed 304. if its an injected engine its a 308 unless its had a newer head and computer put in, but if you say its factory then forget about that bit!

    All VL engines were 304's and all were carby, bar the Group A that was fuel injected.

    if the engine number was prefixed by VW, then you'd have yourself an LV2 4.9 H/Comp. motor

    The VW prefix is for the A9L optioned engings as found in the Holden Group A (carby one). The LV2 option became the base model V8 in the VL, and uses the prefix VJ.

    Wasn't there 2 Group A's in the VL... Brock Group A and the Walkinshaw ?

    Brock was carby... Walky was EFI

    Correct. Makes it difficult. There was the carby VL Group A's which were HDT/Holden made that were all permenant red, and then there is the HSV Group A (walky) which run port fuel injection.
