the time for the building is within view now!
im not sure weather i paint what i have and make it look alll tidy first then build the engine.

or should i just buy a cheap original turbo for say $4000 and clean it up??

the breaks on the turbo would eventully be upgraded and i would put a calais nose peice on the front aswell as alll the interior as i love the red!

the turbo's gear box and drive line/diff etc is stronger then straight 6 and im thinking it would be saving money using them aswell as hopefully buying a turbo that has slightly clean injectors and a few other parts..

i would put the t3/04 on have a turbo etc.. for around 5grand then paint is 4g. add the price of me selling my current car and im back to around 5 grand....

therefore spending 9grand.... is it better to just buy one for 9? =\

im not sure if im quite upto building a fuel injected engine yet...

hmm.... sound like reasonable plan or not?

trust me if you do it yourself you wont regret it because you know exactly whats been done to your engine....lots of fun too might i add i dont trust other people with nicer cars because they can sometimes bullshit to you to make you want their car when it really has no mods at all....

yeah i know it will cost soooo much more if i do it myself but its the personal satisfaction that i will enjoy the most!

i budgeted for like $15 grand......... i blew that out of the way in 2 months lol!!! and you know that your car IS good and build strong because you know what went into it

i think it will be a constant project but also a daily driver.. but then i think i lose my lisence on the 18th!! so i REALLY need to know what im gunna do!

i do need to find out exactly what the problem with the engine is as they would be selling coz its totally F$#@ from what i understand.

its got quite and ugly inside but i want to redo the inside, its something i cant do to my current car is its spotless and all red!

Yeah, whatever you budget for, add another 1/3 of that price on. I budgeted for around 15 aswell.

Looking back now I could have the wrx I wanted for ages - Or I could have a new car of sorts. However, I'll be happier when something I've created is rolling down the streets.

In hindsite, I'd nearly want to buy a factory turbo/calais and be done without the dramas.

Dude, don't overlook the personal satisfaction thing. Just my opinion, but i would rather start with something requiring some work. Something in an 'honest' condition. Not something that "my brother /mate is a pannel beater & jammed for me on the weekend" type of car.
I can tell you with experience, if you go down the road of building, instead of buying, you will undoubtly end up with a greater knowledge of how your car works,performs & tricks of fiddly fixes that may keep you in beer, well into your next 5 cars!
This type of knowledge is invaluable & transferable to your next HOLDEN purchase & the next, & the next.... Let the apprenticeship begin. LoooooooooL

hey stock_vl i allowed 10 grand and i spent 4000 on my motor which has got bout 12000 spent on it outta the trading post if ya take ya time with iit u can get some good gear for cheap i also got a turbo 5 speed and gt 35/40 rated at 700 hp for it plus a computer mine is already a calais turbo so that helps to and try do most of it yourself i did u will save a lotta money still waiting on the dyno to get it tuned but should be looking at 350 to 400 horses at the wheels
