    Default battery discharging

hey fella's haveing a bit of trouble with my battery on the vl i dont know why but it seems to discharge over a couple of day's which becomes a real b!tch because every time i go to drive it the battery is gone .

was wondering if you fella's had the same issue and maybe something is draining the battery i tried disconnecting it when im not driving it that seemed to prolong the life a bit, becasue its unregistered and its always getting stopped and started i figured that would make it die quickly but is there anything that could be draining the battery, i have pulled the fuse from the radio and the interior illumination just in case something comes on or sucks power (did it in the old vk interior glovebox light wouldnt go out )

    thanks fella's dan_man31

    ummm.....

sometimes if u have attached extra things eg amp's etc..
you have to put a wire from the negative to the shell of the car. helps compencate and even out the positive and negative... but yeh... if that battery is going flat when nothing is attached it seems that it would be time to get a new one

probably just an old battery, check the water level, water should cover the plates and use distilled water only

i'm guessing the alternator, i had the same problem but with "another brand" of vechile that we wont speak off in this thread. battery would be ok for a while then if i left it overnight or a couple of nights the battery would b dead, turned out to be the alternator, $280 bucks later it worked again, if it turns out to be this i wouldnt consider getting a 2nd hand one becasue u just dont no the shape of them and they could be just as worse as the one u have attached atm

alternator usually turns out only to be brushes in the regulator. Anywhere up to $50 new, depending on where you go. Just replace this & all should be good. Try not to get duped into getting recond alt when most places only replace regulator anyways!!! Biggest bitch is getting alt out of a VL *sigh* I managed to get regulator off thou with out removing alt. Its worth a try....

hey found out there is something draining the battery , which inevitebaly killed it looked like a new battery but apparently wouldnt hold charge always kept the water level up so it was definetly old put a new one in and is definetly holding charge better but something is still draining did the old pull fuses and tap the negative wires to the terminal and u see spark tells me something is pulling power i was wondering if the computer might be pulling power because if im right the computer isnt connected to the usual fuse in the box is it ?

anyway alternator turned out to be sweet new battery and she's running great still need to sort out draining power

    thanks fella's and ladies dan

Might be an earth leak. If your battery has a path directly to earth, it will just siphon out all the power over time.

Might also be wise to see if any of your electrics are staying on when the car isn't running. Lights, amplifiers...

after we fixed mine someone (Ben) accidently put the wire back on the alt wrong. Ended up takin it to autoelecs cus couldnt for the life of us work out what was draining so much.... Cost me $5 for them to have a look & fix it... used to be free but they found spent most of there time doin 10min jobs & not the paying ones lol... I dont mind. So try takin it to autoelec.... even if they just tell ya whats wrong & you go & fix it...
