Hey guys and girls. when wiring in a tacho on a 6 cyl non turbo what do i connect the rpm signal wire to? on other cars with cylindrical coils it connects to the post where the wire runs off to the dizzy. what do i do as the vl has a sealed connector. Also the tacho has 6 wires. 2 wires i understand, 1 to headlamp source and the one for rpm signal, but the other for i'm not sure of. 2 for ground and 2 for power source. Do i need to hook both to ground and power or just one to each?![]()
well im not too sure but, i think it plugs straight into the spedo, you could probabley find a write up somewhere if you search for it

not sure why there is 6 wires.. but there should be one for ground.. one for power.. which u can hook up to the power of the dash.. one for the rpm signal which should also be on the back of the dash.. and one for the illumination.. hope this helps..
I wonder what those scales on the top right side of my posts do...
which wire is the rpm signal wire that i can hook into?
What breed of tacho?
They are normally.
Green - RPM signal
Red - power
White - Power from dash light
Black - Earth
I am pretty sure the other wires are for changing to 4 or 8 cyl
my bad.. doesnt hook up to the back of dash.. need to run it to the positive wire on the coil pack.. when the car is running.. get a wire tester n it should be pulsing on n off.. then u have to run it to inside the car.. this is definitley how to do it..

i've told the signal wire, for the cars with the clock instrument cluster, is hanging near the alternator for those who wish to put in a tacho. now whether that wire needs to be hooked up to the coil and runs to the dash or if the wire connects to the tacho with the signal already running through it is another question.
naa mate..you dont hook it up to the postive terminal of the coil pack
you gotta hook it up to the NEGATIVE TERMINAL, NEGATIVE!
