i was just driving today. then i stopped and turned the car off. then attempted to turn it on again. i got nuthin. no turn over. just a couple f clicks the first time then absolutely dead. so yeh i jump started it and no worrys. left it going for half and hour and went for a drive. then turned it off. same story when i came back to it.
is the battery stuffed?
whats the diffrence in batterys?
Half a carton and still going!!! Now thats Economy
yeah she's stuffed. theres differences in the the number of plates and the cranking amps. The more plates the better though they get heaps heavier. Get a reasonable cranking amp too, you don't want something thats going to struggle cranking the motor over but you don't want something to high (for diesels) as it will wear your starter motor and ring gear on your flywheel. Whenyou get a new one buy Inox as well and put that in. it'll double your warranty. Just keep the receipts.
just check firstly you don't have very dirty terminals and it's not contacting properly, pull your battery clamps off and give them and the terminals a real good clean and try it again, just becasue they look clean doesn't mean they are.
If you jump start the car and go for a drive and come back and it is still dead or won't take charge from a good battery charger then yes replace it, but still clean your old terminals before putting them onto a new battery.![]()
sweet as. cleaned them and no dramas. goes like before. thanks guys.
is there a way to test the alternater is working
Half a carton and still going!!! Now thats Economy
the earth terminal doesnt obviously go to the chassis on the other end, anyone know where the connection is, as corrosion here is a common cause of electrical problems
apart from some red on one terminal wire , would be difficult to tell which terminal was which
check battery levels also. Invest in a $5 battery tester... GGRRR wish I had of done that b4 I went & replaced alt & regulator on my car.... Turned out it was battery but battery charger was falsely giving good reading. Tested in with hydrobatterytestythingy.... & hey 2 dodgey cells!!!
Looks like a turkey baster thingy, you put it in each cell & squeeze & the float inside tells you if that cell is okay. repeat for each cell & voila! Battery condition known!!!
Oh BTW I didnt even buy mine.... we won it on a cryptic cruise!!! lmao
D.
right........
Half a carton and still going!!! Now thats Economy
a hydromoter allows you to check each individual cell and its not unusual to find 1 or 2 bad cells, yes they are messy, especially if the acid gets on your fingers and you put the finger to an eye, OUCH!
most battery testers just give an average of all cells, this can hide a bad cell
if you want to test the alternator, grab a multimeter and check the terminal that leads to the battery for volts, it should read something like 13.8V, just remeber to disconnect the wire that goes to the battery otherwise it can give a misleading figure... and especially remember to reconnect this wire! ps do the disconnecting and reconecting with the car off and battery disconnected... there is also the light on the dash that shows a pic of the battery but this is not failsafe....Originally Posted by VLACS
