Hey guys,
my vl is killing computers, does anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this, i have been replacing stuff which is getting expensive! i have just replace the air mass meter and another computer!
any ideas muchly appreciated~!
auto comput will not go on a 5 speed that might be one prob the other is if its a turbo you would need a turbo comp
Over voltage will smoke an airflow meter pretty fast as it is the only sensor to get 12v on a vl.
Check the alternator output

get your hands on a multimeter and check the power rating thats going into the computers and match it with the specified ratings that it should be taking
my web sitestuff on the XF throttle body conversion, calais interior and lots of other junk!
A loose or corroded baterey terminal may send voltage spikes to your computor aswell.
i was told you can put an auto comp. on a manual. that you you just leave the connection for the gearbox unplugged. I'm not saying your wrong, just wondering if what i heard is possible. it seemed logical to me cos instead of the comp. changing the gears the driver does instead. and the rest of the connections are the same. anyone know for sure?Originally Posted by greg v
i dont think the engine computer really cares whether its auto or manual. if its auto u should have a computer under the dash on the drivers side if its manual u dont need one. i put a rb20e engine that was manual into my vl that was a rb30e auto an just changed the loom an computer. the donor car was a kiwi vl 2l an had no drivers side comp an my auto has a computer an it runs fine. as for the swap the 3l hada cracked head an the 2l was dereg. an i was movn twn instead of towing 2 trailers one with the 3l vl one with my stuff i wrecked the 2l an towed my stuff with the 3l-2l. oh an the 2l 5spd was rooted. confusin i know but now i have a lot of spares an a 3l block 2 play wif mmmmmm rb30desc 5spd cummn up
