    Cool

You will probably find that the key is worn down a fair bit....I had a new key cut for my HJ wagon once...had to put it over the sander to get it to work..take all the edges off......

as VL locks wear over the years, almost any VL type key will open them, this is known to car thieves and is a reason why so many VLs are stolen

I got another VL for parts, it came with no keys but the key from my VL worked on all the locks and the ignition

an easy antitheft thing is to run some chain around the seatframe and over the steering wheel rim with a good quality padlock, the prospect of having to saw thru the chain will hopefully make the thief steal somebody elses car!

    can he start your car?
the locks and keys get work away, your locks must be more work than your mates.
get new locks if you dont want it to happen with someone that isnt your mate

oh and can you get a key cut out of a really worn and skinny key. cos its so old and skinny it looks like itll snap easy. the key im using is the one that only unlocks and turns the car on.

I had a flatmate who owned a VL turbo. I remember him telling me that Holden were only using a dozen or so locks at that time. So every 18th or 19th car or whatever came out of the factory with the same locks as a previous one.

Not a VL but if I remember correctly when the VN was released in NZ, Holden sent a plastic key to every house in the country. The idea being that 10 of these keys would open the cars on display at the dealers. So everybody went down with their key to the holden dealerships around the country to try their luck. The ten winning keys worked, along with another ten or so that opened with 'losing keys'. The whole affair was very embarrasing for Holden at the time...

....im no mathematical genious but if only a dozen locks were used wouldnt every 12 or so cars (ie 2 in 24)have the same locks? maybe i missed something....

funny as phark, mate bought a calais turb0,brought it around 15mins after he grabbed it, left it idling out in the street & closed the doors. Locked shut! God damn central locking ! I opened it with the worn key from my SLR. Should have seen his face!

download infranview (search on www.download.com). Load picture into infranview. go image->resize/resample and punch in some smaller numbers.

I locked my keys in the car once...rang my mate up, and he come around in his vl, pull his keys out of the ignition while the car was running and unlocked my car for me.

Does everybodys keys come out while running?

When i seen my mate about the damaged manual sl he was telling me there should be 2 or 3 different keys for the vl, boot 1 and glovebox are suppose to be different to the ignition one, but one key does all for me, and he went to my coloumn and started up my car no worries...theres prob something wrong with the ignition that allows this to happen. My key opens 5 and starts 4 of them, the 5th has a f**ked lock and any key will open it. But i don't mind, i have solex and an immobiliser; and 2 of the cars are write offs now

i am led to believe that ther are 2 keys. one for your self. which opens everything and one for a mechanic for example. so he can open the door and drive it but cant get into the glove box or boot. security you see
