Exhaust Query

hey lads got genie extractors and a 2 1/2'' exhaust put on the other day and its sounds pretty good but it is pretty quiet. it sounds mean when idleing and from about 1500 to 2500 revs but from then on it sounds like standard. I have herd exhaust deepen and sound better after they are worn in , is this true and how long till it wares in and will it change the note??

yes it does change note after it wears in but not dratically, i have the same as you but i have pacemaker extractors and a small cannon, it is really deep till about 3000rpm then it dosnt sound standard but it isnt as deep but still sounds awesome

oi does putting a tip on the end change note at all?? like no cannon tip but like a maybe 3'' oval or wateva??

an exhaust "tip" will not change the note at all its just to make the end look better... my cannon is personal preference alot of people dont like them at all but i think the vl's can get away with having one due to the whole nissan motor thing ill put up some pics of it and you can make up your own mind...

P.S dont mind the rust hole in my spare wheel well

yes it does.. after a couple of weeks u will here a sound difference n afta a couple of months.. u'l b stuck with that sound..i dont have extractors but i got a 2 &1/2 cat back with a 3 inch chrome down tip n only 1 muffler.. n its pretty loud..
have u ripped the guts outa your cat converter? that'l change sound n is free to do..

have u got a pipe through your cat? isnt that illegal? lol does it sound diff to having nothing in your cat? n also wotz best way to do it? coz i wanted 2 do that for a while now.. the good old 'HotDog'...

mate yes it is illigal but so is knocking the guts out of it! most exhaust places wont do it because its illigal but its good to have family in the buisness... and yes its a different sound its not a tinny sound like a guttless cat

yeah im thinking of doing it too, but not sure how to do it, i have taken a cat off before but im not sure how to open it up. can anyone help me out with that one?

i put a 2 1/2 system on my Vl with no mufflers or ressie just a cannon on the back sounds great.Vibrates one side of the house when it idles in the garage only problem is that it's attracting way to much atention from the boys in blue.Thinking of changing it soon cos im just sick of the agro from the cops.
