My first car and it already has a problem only 2 weeks in. i jst bought a vl and when i bought it it was fine no smoke comin out of the exhaust now few weeks later looks like oil is is comin out coz i have heaps of spots on my driveway, but there is also a fair amout of smoke. its blue smoke, wat do u think is wrong with it? any ways of fixing it? ive kinda flogged it a couple of times but not to hard. HELP ME!
blue smoke... um i read something bout that colour. lets see..afm??
Half a carton and still going!!! Now thats Economy
is the PCV valve blocked or worn out? have you overfilled the sump, do you have a broken or the wrong dipstick?
i dont know where the pcv pipe is so yeah plz explain. i have the right dipstick. and i dont know if i fill the sump up to much. it runs abit rough could it be the timing belt?
See on top of the rocker cover??? there is a tube going from there to the air filter....it gets all the oil fumes, and puts them into the motor to be burned with the fuel/air..... the valve is a little rattly thingie at the rocker cover end...if its buggered, it wont let the oil fumes through......
have you been flogging the hell out of it?
have you changed the oil recently?
worst case it has worn or cracked rings and the person you bought it from put some stop smoke in it to get a sale.
is there any black oily shit around the exhaust or up the back of the car?
sometimes if its been driven nicely for most off its life itll get some carbon build up, then when it cops a flogging this crap moves and causes smoke for a while, same as when you put premium through it - dislodges crap. doesnt explain the drips on the driveway though.
i cheaked the pcv valve hose and it ok not blocked. there is oily shit all around the exhaust tip. its a chrome tip thats now black, no sigh of chrome left. there is even oil on the back bumper above the muffler. i hope it was u said bout the crap jst being moved. how long will that take to go if its that? it been blowning smoke for bout week and half now. is there any easy way to find out if the piston rings are ****ed?
im going to change the oil soon, hopefully that will get rid of it.
make sure its a good grade oil. could take a tank or 3 to shift crap through. try running premium unleaded, will do a better job cleaning the crap out.
mine did the same thing just before the head went, and also check injectors.
Get a Compression-test done........(not much involved in putting a new Head-gasket on).......![]()
its good to start with simple things first, check the engine oil level, the dipstick is on your left side near the front of the engine as yoiu look at the engine from the front
if its missing then you need to drain the sump and measure what comes out, if over 4.3 litres then it was overfull
a badly overfull oil system will cause all the problems you mention
lots of blue smoke when going downhill with foot off the accelerator is usually caused by a worn out PCV valve
its normal for the inside of the exhaust pipe to be black on an unleaded car, the normal for a car on ULP is dark mottled grey
lol went drivin today and the cars revs started going up and down crazily from 4000rpm to 0rpm. wat the hell is wrong with it. plus i went to start it andsmoke came out from under the hood. i changed the oil 2 days ago and its still playing up. the pcv vale is ok. any ideas bout it?
can someone plz wb
*could* be electrical. *maybe* crank angle sensor!? as for the smoke also maybe electrical depending how much smoke. i had some smoke not long ago and was from the battery. but never had a problem since. you may have an overloaded circuit somewhere.
it could be a number of things. I know were here to help but may i suggest a trip to the mechanics when they are quiet then pull my favourite moves on them:
"My car just started playing up do you have a minute to have a quick look?"
...usually they say yeah no worries...
...then tell you whats wrong, if something needs adjusting they will do it there and then, failing that they tell you whats wrong, then you say:
"thanks for that, ill book it in when i can afford it"
then you get on here and we tell you how to do it yourself.
Sorry to all the mechanics out there i have done tthat to.
whatever the problem is i would take it nice an easy until you figure it out. blue smoke to me is an indication of oil being burnt, unless its overful there is really no good way for this to be happening... sorry.
nurse it, doesnt sound nice. upside is if it is fatal buying a second hand motor is cheap and can be swapped in a weekend with a bunch of mates and a few cartons of piss. as harry3 said though do the small things first though. take it to a trusted mechanic and ask his/her opinion. good luck mate.
