Just tried to have my unit regassed by techs to find out after regassing the pressures were good and all was well now the compressor has siezed. 1600 for a new system installed from the same techs. I found a used compressor at the wreckers for 85 and someone to install it for 160 plus flush, fliter, and re-gas. Should I attempt the installation of the compressor myself as a novice or let the pros do it?![]()

beware if they use real flushing liquid and your system is choccas with grey gunge it could get expensive quick
The compressor is easy to replace but leave the o'rings to the experts as it is easy to damage them.
Do not change the compressor until the system is flushed right otherwise you will be in the same spot in about two weeks.
There is NO filter between the compressor and the condensor....make sure it is flushed right and that the tx valve and reciever drier are replaced when you do the compressor other wise it will be a complete waste of time.
kindest regards Guy
120 in a 100 zone.....Sorry officer....I thought you where trying to give my wife back!!!!
Guy:
My air con unit (89 VN) clicks on and off rapidly even when the car is only just idling - the mechanic thinks that the tx valve is seized. He thinks this because he said the system is building up alot of pressure then seem to relieve it through the clicking (?)
I am on the "old" gas - can you tell me what you think and what my options are ?
He also said that there was metal in the fluid which he thinks could mean the compressor is on the way out (?)
