hey iam a noob to the whole turbo supercharger area,
does your engine need to be fuel injected? or can you have carbey feed ?

umm, do you need to have any mods / upgrade to a stock engine / drivetrain to run these? or will they run on stock!
how much do they effect your fuel effenciy, does it depend on how you drive it, ( lower revs where the turbo isnt running wont effect fuel use ?)
thats all for now hehe hope you can help

oh average price for - turbo
    - supercharger
    bye bye thankyou

i can help with a couple of those.
-You can turbo a carby engine, some people have no problems, generally though people seem to never be able to tune them properly.
-a turbo is still running at lower revs. it may not be producing masses of significant intake pressure, but is still running.
-you could get a decent turbo for under $700. The bigger you go the more mods you have to think about.

what have you got if you need to
    upgrade to a stock engine
.... or do you mean upgrade from a stock engine? a small turbo with low boost will run quite happily with no internal upgrades.

bex etc will be able to give you more exact figures and answers.

haha yeah woops, i ment upgrade from a stock engine lol thanks for the reply, i had always liked the idea of a v8 turbo, but i have a carbey engine and just wondered if it was possible, how well do turbos run on bigger engines? do you need a bigger turbo for a 5L than if you had a 3L iam guessing yes.

i think the plan is to stick one on each bank. i dont think they have to be any bigger - they will be only getting half the pressure each to spool.
If it were a single (and a nightmare of pipework) it would just build pressure a bit quicker than a 6cyl, so yes it would run a bigger one but you wouldnt 'have' to use a bigger turbo.
V8s like superchargers better, i dont know alot about them though.
Consider my plans, im thinking about ditching the carby fed 304 in favour of an injected newer V8. Well worth the increase in power and economy then turbo / sc mods would be worth it even more.

well basically your lookin at big $$$ to build something like a turbo V8 and make it survive for a while. You would need to rebuild the motor with forged pistons, get the block crack tested and shot peen everything, Then titanium valve springs and roller rockers. You can run a carby setup, they are known as "suck through" or "draw through" and also take into account that with carby turbo's you can't run an intercooler. It will work but won't be vey efficient and will cost thousands. I agree with what VLV8VIC said ^^^^ go for an injected setup first and it will be allot easier and more efficient. Blowers are cheaper to setup and run but are not able to produce the power the turbo can because the blower simply runs out of breath.

It depends on how much you can find one for and it has to have all looms and computers and the transmission as well. I have seen them range from $1850-$4500 with the transplant probably costing around the $1000 mark.

The new blowers these days are small and very quiet and the rozza's would hardly notice if they looked under the hood. Blowers are not illegal on the street but you must have adequate braking upgrades. Nos is illegal on the street.

    sounds about right.
My plan is to get a whole VR etc maybe with some nasty non-mechanical damage, use the bits i need then sell whats left.
Get the car for under $4000, get half of it back in its own parts, some more selling my carby V8 and box etc, then put some money back into getting the computer modded, exhaust and a decent diff.
I think in the end i worked out putting 4k aside would have the job done nicely.

the gen3 motors go hard but i still prefer the 5.0 litre. my cousin has a vp hsv clubsport and just spent between 5000 and 10000 supercharging it. when i see him at christmas and go for a ride i'll let you's know how she goes. should be heart stopping stuff. from what i've heard i'll want my mummy afterwards or my missus for a totally different reason.

they are illegal only if they hang so far out of the bonnet as to impede your vision, same reason you cant hang fluffly dice, dancin hula girls an that sort of crap off your rear view mirror.
