    Default Cheap power?

    Hey every1,

Im 16 and have just got my L's and am going to do a few small mods to my 87' VL to get a little bit extra out of it and would like to know if im headed in the right direction.

    a) CAI into the stock box with a K&N panel filter.
    b) XF throttle body.

    C) Start running on optimax and advance the timing. (Could i get a bit of info on this one please? Is it a good idea or should i leave it where it is?)

    Thanks

you probably wouldn't notice any gain with the xf throttlebody until you have all the other mods. Like the CAI and Hi flow panel filter are a great start, then some pacemaker extractors, 2&1/2 sports exhaust,chip/cam (pricey). Is it auto? If it is go to a place that does automatic transmissions and ask them to put bigger valve bodies in it (this will make the auto more hardy and shift allot harder). Its pretty hard to get lots of horsepower out of an NA but its not impossible with $$$$

yeah it is auto, i dont want to spend any money on the auto box as im wanting to convert to manual so ill just wait until i have enough funding for the project or the auto box blows up, whichever is first. I already have extractors and the exhaust is 2.5 all the way through.

Justcommodores has informed me not to buy an off the shelf chip, any alternatives to that that will still keep my bank account open?

Timing? Is it hard? Risky? Worth it? etc.

well mine gos pritty hard for a NA Vl its got xtractor, 2.5 all the way, ductd in take and a manual 5spd which is out of a R32 shitline.
its ok for a starter like ur self as the vls dont have the best handerling and the 1 spinners r a death trap as there unpredictable (i know, writen off my old vl), and if u add more power 2 that 1 wheelre then ur going to hurt ur self or ur car,
if u add more power then u need to compensaite with handerling and stopping because at speeds they turn like a ford and stopping quick is like a ford taking off, takes a long time and distance 2 do it
