VL Cluster with logo

[VL Berlina 5speed]

not long ago i purchased a custom vl berlina/calais dash cluster, it is white with blue lighting and 2 big logos one of the holden lion and the word "holden", i havnt had any problems with the police as i havnt been pulld ova yet but i was wondering would there be a high proberbilaty that i whould proberly get Dfected (im in SA), it didnt set me bak much only 73 bucks delived off ebay

Nah mate you should be ok with that. Looks great aye did you install the inserts into the cluster or did you buy the cluster complete? hmmmm I'm thinking right now that I want one haha, I didn't think it would look as good as it does.

finally someone who has one. i'm getting one myself after christmas. i spoke with the guy who does them and he can do almost whatever combination of colours you want. anything other than the white background is $89 instead of the $70. i'm getting the two tone like my car. he can also do them to glow whatever colour at night too from memory. how hard/easy was it to install?

yah it was the background cards i got, its not made out of cardboard or cheap plastic its acctualy quality plastic which amazed me. i was easy to install took me 30 minutes to install taking my time 2 not scrach the paint on the cards, the only proberlm is that my speedo is off by 5km because i didnt put it right on zero, but i will fix that when i get a new cluster because my trip and odomater stopd workn

bangers its not a big job once u get the whole dash/cluster out its easy it only takes like 10 screws and ur got the clear cover off then its just a mater of getting the needles of, the easyest way 2 get them off i found was with a fork, but dont pull side ways put evan pressure on it and lift up, or the colum will bend stuffing ur speedo or rev gauge up.
when u put it bak 2gether dont make the mistake i did and put the speedo off make it xact on zero (rev gauge dosent matter its on a spring)

because i have the red lighting on mine it stand out a lot and ive been thinking bout it, i want 2 change the colour of my nav switches (wipers/demista) to red would anyone know how i could do this? as the plastic is accturly the green part not the light.....

then im done red dash, red mp3 player and red nav switches

There is a trhread I read sometime ago about this (changing the button light colours) It was on calais turbo I think, I had an idea to use very powerful coloured led lights to illuminate these buttons but if you chose red led's I think the green plasic would make them look brown, Blue I think we could get away with. It will be a fiddly job.

can you scratch the green off? then replace with red paint? & then just used white globes? Using red globes might work in the buttons because not a big area of diffusement is needed. The dash lights that Ive seen changed often dont light up properly using coloured globes... but when repainted dashes & white globes, looks better IMO

hmmmmm i got a idea did anybody do well in there art subject at school because i want 2 know wat colour would i add to the light bulb to make it change the colour when it gos through the green

o well 2 day imgoing 2 try and sand bak the green on the inside of them and add a red condom cova, i will report bak on my results and if it works and if it works i will take pics 2 night

ive done it

it wasnt hard it was only a 2 minute job, i took a old satilte switch apart off my old car and found out to amazment that it was as easy as changing a condom cover,
it turns out holden orignal put green condom covers on the light to give the green it the ugerly effect,
all i had 2 do was go 2 sprint and buy some connies at $2.95 for a pak of 5, the 5mm connies are the smallest size that is made by Narva Auto Bulbs and the size needed is 4mm, so to fix this all i used was a little dob of super glue at the base of the condom and presto its done,
re connect it to ur dash and stand bak and marvel at ur cheap mod, well worth it if u ask me,
the is no sanding involed in this because the plastic is clear

I got the blue condoms in but have to wait till it gets dark to see how they turned out, also used a blue LED globe for the shifter but my soldering is not good LOL I've blown one fuse already but the new fuse hasn't blown yet so we'll see how it goes

im not sure that they used green connies over the bulbs, to give the green effect...i put red connies over mine and it was still green with a bit of red to make a sh*t colour. Kinda brown but you would still say it was green, little red specks showed up through.

Same here, put blue connies in and its still green aye, green with a hint of pale blue but still very green. My shifter light tho on the other hand bloody superb all the numbers light up bright blue even thru the green plastic shit. I will get some pics later on.

pulled the connies off mate no joy there lol maybe only red works aye. The globe that lights up the numbers on the shifter is what I changed P R N D 2 1 it used to light up green but the blue LED is powerful enough to shine through the green stuff, but very hard to take photos of, Looks a treat in the flesh tho. and that red light is my interior light with a 2 led red globe in it. The 2nd pic is with the number piece out so you can see how bright it actually is so that it shines through the green. It was a pain to do and hope I never have to do it again LOL oh and in real life you can clearly see all the numbers

Well it was hard for me, I got the blue LED globe and juzza fitted a 12 volt resistor to it for me, cut the globe holder from the car (2 wires) removed the old globe (led was tested in car before removing globe holder to check + and - and make sure it worked) and just soldered the LED globe into the holder (tricky confined space). then when dry taped up the poles of the globe (you cannot trim the poles of the globe, this will cause the LED to fail, bending them too much will do the same) connected the 2 wires to the globe holder and tested the LED, (was working but when I fiddled with it I blew a fuse) placed the globe through the original hole for the old globe put it back together and changed the fuse. all ok now.

so you bought some sorta LED that doesn't fit in the holder...do the ones that fit in the holder work a treat or not? (ne1).

Where was it all purchased from...because you can do the same thing in the back of the cluster...the blue leds shine right through the green...think u just need to solder them on with some resistors...but can some1 explain y the resistors are to be used! (is it becasue of the led voltage capacity; haven't looked into them yet but gonna get around to doing it.

so the LED was solder into the holder, if so how do you prevent a short, as it is a tiny space? (could be how the fuse blew)

And berlina 5 speed, you must have different sorta dash, some1 might have fiddled with it previously because there is a thread in calaisturbo explaining how to use metho etc to wipe away the green. You are saying that there were connies on the bulb???
