i got my brakes fully serviced , in my VL berlina, bout 12 months ago (by Midas) recon. calipers , machined discs , new pads & new fluid. But sometimes now , i find my brakes stop as normal & other times ive really got to stomp on them hard ( pushing the pedal all the way to the floor) just to get it to stop.
What could this be , is it maybe an air bubble in the brake lines?
any answers would be apprciated as my wife drives the car most of the time.
failing any visible leaks id suggest bleeding out the brakes and seeing what happens, have you checked the fluid levels and they are ok?
Bleeding willl only cost you $8 or so for the fluid so worth doing anyway.
Is it rear drum? they might need adjusting, i think they are meant to adjust themselves but are prone to not do this (im open to corrections - i dont have drums - im pretty sure i read that somewhere though....)
it does sound like an airbubble, loose hose, or worn hose though.
the brakes should behave the same way every time, look for any signs of fluid leaks
the rear drums should adjust themselves if you reverse and brake a few times
the front pads could be worn down, remove a front wheel and check the thickness
my berlina brake pedal is always spongy, dont know if this is normal
have you checked your brake booster? is there a increasingly loud hissing noise when you put your foot on the brake? could be the booster diaphragm.
