hey peoples i recently got up the courage to start interior work , eg, fixing cigarette holes n sun damage i pulled the parcel tray out along with the whole back seats and i found the places where the speakers can go (same frame used for models with speakers in the back ) i pushed em out and before i went out and wasted my money looked it up and someone was saying that the normal speakers wouldnt fit i can easily cut it if this is a problem
but does anyone have pics of their parcel tray with how they set up the speakers thanks

If i had a digi-cam i'd post pics but i don't...mine was custom done at rocky car sound 2 owners before me. They are 6 * 9 inch with a slight angle in the parcel shelf, under 30degree angle with like the back seat or window however u can picture it. And less than a foot off the side walls, flush mount.
If you can get them to flush mount do so because it looks better. Only prob is with the speakers not fitting. Yeah u could cut it out to make em fit down the hole, just make it look neat, seen some with the metal broken downwards with sharp edges n shit. But i believe it is not legal to cut the chasis in anyway at all, but when they go for roadworthy they shouldn't pass, but usually do. Mine did.
HERE is my custom shelf with 6x9's and spacers covered in white vynil with foam padding underneath. its very sexy haha,
Its is unroadworthy if you cut the chassis to fit speakers.
p.s. I have since fitted the car with new clarion 3 way 260w 6x9's

hey guess could you clear this up i thought it was illegal to cut your parcel tray because of some bull *#&# so are you allowed to make a new 1 as long as you dont cut into metal....?
kool thanks for that mate
do your 6x9's fit without any modification i wanted to go with 2 6x9's and 2 round ones (dont know wat the measurments are :P) but why arnt i allowed to cut the chassis wasnt it like u werent allowed to cut ,seams or joins in the metal or bracing or something ?
thanks dan

theres some thign about the child seat hook thingo as well which was on the shelf...
and there was a vl with 4 six by nines in the back. red one. i think it was on here
Half a carton and still going!!! Now thats Economy
i used about 8mm mdf and it fits flush. put spacers in the middle with 6x9s. cut small holes in the mdf to fit the magnets through, they clear the metal tray. now i'm cutting above the holes in the tray to fit 6 1/2s in as well. all run off a 4x100w amp. should crank when finished. it's very secure as the seat lips over it at the front and the back is bolted down to the baby capsule mounts. practical too as i can but a kids seat or capsule in.
yeah this has given me an idea, tomorrow im gonna go out to a warehouse down the road in kilsyth and buy some pine and make up an angle bracket, to angel my 6x9s foreward and lift them up a bit... what is the depth of the shelf? bts im putting in 2 pioneer 460w 5 way 6x9s pretty sweet ay

what do i do about the bottom of the parcel shelf, what you can see from the boot, will the speakers just stick out of the bottom, as my vl is in tazzy and im in vic at the moment i cant actually go and check. do they just sit in the shelf and sit in to the boot itself?

when you take the holes out and fit the speaker sin them. they go into the boot area about a couple of inches give or take.

im makign plans to make a little angle bracket tomorrow but i am wondering what angle should i set them at?

can't remember exactly what size but I think it was 12mm, the spacers are made from my old toranas shelf LOL Recycle. so the 2 combined would be 24mm and the custom shelf does not sit right on the metal there is about an inch to play with underneath. (above the speaker holes in the metal, but sits flush in the middle)
i still have the original shelf, which a previous owner has made 6-inch holes in, but i have some custom speaker boxes with the black carpet on the outside. theyre at an angle at the top. i also carpeted the parcel shelf to match the interior. looks good. u can also get some cheap spacers similar to the boxes i got from strathfield, jus made out of plastic but brings the speakers up an inch or so .
NO wait I was wrong it has to be at least 14-16mm mdf that was used on my shelf.
geez I wasn't thinking straight when I posted the above info. coz you need around 1&1/2 inches to clear the metal if you do not use the speaker holes and the foam and vynil on mine would give it even more lift if even a couple of mm
Hey if you are planing on running a sub i dont see the point of putting 6x9's just put i good set of 6" in and it will sound awsome
I tried it out.. without spacers etc.. and my speakers stick up about 3cm LOL.. im gonna need spacers or something..

if you go to thick it won't sit under your rear window rubber and under the rear seat.
yeah was supposed to be temp, until got around to fitting the subs from the VK... but ended up staying. In the VK had mdf parcel shelf & 2 6x9's & was fine, because of the extra width in the VN we used the "VN" pods & then pinched the speaker spacers from the VL for the middle ones... looked good & did a job job...
Was a lil over kill once the twins went into the boot thou... ah well neva too much bass
