did you put your engine to TDC? the belt has a white mark on it. put the belt on with the mark in the exact same spot as it came off. you really should replace the belt now for a measly few quid instead of having to replace it later on and have to pull it all apart again.
yeah replace the belt whiel its off, it would probabley need replacing anyway

kool thanks i dont know i wasent taking notice of the tdc or positions of the piston but my mate has a timing light he can help me and i will replace the belt thanks guys ( isnt the water pump a bitch ) basically have to take the frount appart
yeah, im gonna be doing it soon, i wanna put on a PWR electric water pump, keep it flowing all the time

your water pump is running all the time anyway. it's just the thermostat prevents the water going through the radiator until it warms up. what happens if the electric pump dies or has a short. all of a sudden your temp will hit boil. safer to keep original type of pump.Originally Posted by Stewart1000
Did you take notice of where the spring sits? Mine was incorrectly assembled, and it was too loose, just replaced cambelt but Im not sure ive got the spring in the right place now, might be too tight. Where does the leg of the spring rest- i put it against a stud sticking out of the block that seems to be there for no other reason?
it looks wrong but it is right against the silly little stud at the bottom of the tensioner
i did mine a few years ago did not take much notice about tensioner still going ok
