:b:
I would say about $10000+, if it is an RB26DETT.
ok kool how bout a RB25DET seem it would just about drop straight in
why would the cost be soo high for the rb26dett
my web sitestuff on the XF throttle body conversion, calais interior and lots of other junk!
rb26deTT= twin turbo
by the way you will need an engineers certificate if you go from non turbo to turbo, or even just from standard engine to non standard (engine transplant). The engineer will check things such as adequate braking power, structurally sound installation, and safeness of the vehicle. Once you get the engineers certificate you can then get it re-registered.
How much power does the rb26dett have?
Why not buy a cheap manual VL Turbo (far less than $5500), rebuild the motor, and get the turbo sorted properly. You'd have heaps of change left from $10000 + what you could sell the non turbo car for. Set it up right and the puny 150kw standard output (puny for a 3.0litre turbo motor) can rise by up to 50% (225KW) with a few simple mods. The standard turbo runs very low boost and it is not because the motor can't take more. The motor was setup to be auto box friendly.
Just a thought as I know nothing of the rb26dett other than I'm guessing it is 2.6litres and twin turbo which means it could put out as much as 206Kw or as little as 166Kw.
I may need to be shot for my ignorance though. So feel free to show me the light.
$2000 for engineering.........i wish! the engineering and labour costs for this would be huge.....and i mean hugeOriginally Posted by ucwepn
Engineer certificates in Victoria are around $600 right? what's this $2000 story if they charged that much no one would bother and just drive around illegally, no goverment with a brain would let that happenOh yeah in the rules for Victoria I noticed ther eis mention of turbochargers in the rules that say what needs to be looked at by an engineer but there is no mention of superchargers, that makes them legal as far as I can see
(so long as you aren't making much more power than stock)
i meant it will be over $2000 for engineering AND labour costs from other people that will need to help on the conversion
The engineers certificate itself is only around $700 and to fit big brakes will be around $1300 + $2000 labour for the transplant at least so around $10,000 all up is pretty close to what it will cost including the halfcut for $5500.
The rb26dett comes out with standard 206kw (according to the gentlmans agreement) but with a few mods (around $10k) you will have an easy 500hp or 380kw. ATF
Thanks for the figures ucwepn.
I have heard that the 206Kw limit is to be or has been withdrawn. I have also heard that many of the jap performance motors (especially Nissans) are actually way over 206kw mark. When you see the performance figures for some of these cars there is no possible way they are only putting out 206kw. Cars of similar weights, showing more power and torque and similar gearing, get no way near some of them.
If I remember correctly, the first Nissan Skyline Turbo (Godzilla- $130000) released here was listed as having 206KW but put out closer to 310kw when tested.
If this is the same motor and you have the money it would make a very interesting car indeed as VLs weigh less than the original Skyline which when perfomance tested laid 12.9 second 400m times straight out of the box (I think, sorry I'm getting old). What sort of gearbox would you need though?
I am dreaming of my yet to occur Lotto win now so I'll stop planning a sleeper I can't afford and babbling on.
yeah it will be pricey and my estimation of cost could fall short of the final figure. You will definately need a vl turbo diff or a 9 inch to cope with the power, and for a gearbox if the halfcut comes with the six speed manual use it and get a heavy duty clutch.
