how to undo the drain plug

I couldnt get the cyl block water drainplug off my VL 6 cyl despite removing the front wheel and having a good collection of socket spanners, is there a secret to getting a spanner on this plug?

its probably sealed in by all the scale and crap behind it. do you need to get it out? if you are just doing a flush disconnect your bottom and top hoses then remove your thermostat and stick a hose in where the thermostat goes and blast crap out. repeat with hose in bottom. keep doing both til clear water comes out. run a cooling system cleaner first to help break up the crap.
