it seems that auto trans fluid expands a lot when warmed up, on my VL the fluid is half way between the marks when warm but only on the very bottom of the dipstick, below the add mark when cold. if the fluid were topped up when cold, it would be considerably overfull when hot
is aeration a factor, I know that some fluids can expand due to the trapping of lots of small air bubbles when in use
anyone know by what percentage the fluid expands?
you are meant to check the level when the car is hot for that reason. if you top it up while cold you'll blow your seals.
