hi everyone just found this site,is brilliant, anyway i need some help.vl runs really good but seems when fuel hits around half a tank it wants to die, when it happens idles good but you cant accellerate or it does die, wait five minutes runs great again has been happening for a while now, also has trouble starting, turns over strongly just wont kick, starts on third or fourth try new spark plugs+leads so cant be them, was thinking cas what are your thoughts will be gratefull for advice.it does playup under half a tank also just never when full other then that runs great

could possibly be primary fuel pump in the tank. maybe works well over half a tank cos of the weight of the fuel. under half a tank there is there is less gravitational force on the pump intake. might explain your hard starts as well that the pump intake is probably blocked. it's a little sack that sits on the bottom of the tank. gets blocked after a while.
Thats some good advice by Bangers...... also check to see if the breather for the fuel tank is still o.k.
If that is totally blocked when the fuel gets low you are pulling a partial vacuum in the fuel tank.... same principal as what bangers talked about..... less head pressure in the tank from the weight of the column ( Height) of fuel.
One way to check this is go for a run and when it plays up , open up your fuel cap and you can hear a large amount of air rushing in.
Hope that helps, cos it is an easy fix.
thank you for your opinion i will go with easy fix first hopefully thats it,if not how do i get sack out ,no pun intended lol
i have now read past threads and found a thread with the error codes, the codes on mine were14 vehicle speed sensor and 31 air con i followed instructions to reset them and now both red and green flash together occasionaly,do you think speed sensor had something to do with my problem???????
if the code isn't coming up anymore i doubt its that. to get the sack out:- its attached to internal pump. disconnect battery, take fuel cap off to depressurize tank. drain fuel. get under car and remove internal pump. you may have to remove external pump first. manuals say to remove tank but you shouldn't need to.
did u check for a blocked fuel filter
Research has shown that men usually sleep on the right side of the bed.
Even in our sleep we happen to be right.
