    Default auto and manual diffs

i was tolled last night by a mate that may car has more piortental 2b quicker,
he said that if i had manuals diff on it would b quicker,

is there such thing as a diffrance in the ratios in a manuals diff to a autos diff?
and if so would it make much differance?

tell your mate he's full of crap and to get his hand off it. it's the same diff ratio across the whole board except for the 5.0 litre. auto and manual n/a 6cyl and turbo 6 cyl including LSD all have same ratio of 3.45:1 whereas the v8 auto and manual has 3.08:1 which gives quicker acceleration.

^^^totally agree with bangers, the diffs are identical, the turbo diffs are different but only with the splines and pinions, the ratios for all 6's are the same 3.45.
NA diff is 25 spline 2 pinion
turbo diff is 28 spline 4 pinion.
LSD might make your car quicker through the corners but not really in a straight line unless you are frying your tyres off the line.
and the 3.08.1 is a slower accelerating ratio, more top end tho (highway). 3.45.1 is a great mix of acceleration and top speed. (new monaros have 3.46.1)

Yeah it's total crap. You want the car to be quicker get a better ratio diff. the quicker the car accelerates the quicker it'll be but the lower your top end speed will be.

forgive me i've a few coldies but isn't the shorter diff quicker acceleration. as the diff turns less times in ratio to engine in comparison with a taller diff. ie 3.08 is quicker acceleration than 3.45. correct me if i'm wrong mate.

Bangers your on the right track there but (and its strange how this works) The taller the diff ratio the smaller the number. so just say you had a 2.75.1 it would have bugger all acceleration and would probably hit 300km/h lol. And 4.11.1 would have supreme acceleration but would run out of puff at a lower speed. Gran turismo is my teacher LOL.

in a diff with 4.11 ratio wat would be the top speeds u xpect to hit and what car are these out off?
and wouldnt its revs sit ultra high at 110kmh?
mine (3.45) sits on 2000rpm at 110kmh so if i had a 4.11 in it would the revs b at bout 4000>5000 and use more fuel?

wats do yous recomend for a ratio? i want better accelration BUT i dont want my cars revs to sit 2high when at 100>110kmh

find out the diff ratios out of similar cars that the diff centres should bolt straight in to your vl. i don't know much about the other commies so someone here place your advice on this, but i was thinking maybe early model commies or even VN.
