just out of curiosity......whats the performance difference between an internal and external wastegate?and what benefits are there of a blowoff valve if any?
the difference between an internal and external gate are an external gate can have more control when dealing with higher gas flow and high boost situations, an internal can leak when the pressure is on. a bov as you know vents excess air out of the inlet tract when the throttle/s close. this prevents surge back past the compressor wheel as the boost has nowhere else to go, or it could bend the throttle shaft or blow a hose off somewhere. there is a debate going on between various tuning houses whether both are neccesary on a single application. one says a wastegate can efficiently control the boost, the other says that a bov can do it without a gate. but there it is, in simple detail.Originally Posted by bangers
a bov also helps to keep the turbo spinnin by expelling excess gasses
