car is backfiring, running like it has only five cylinders will idle good sometimes and runs well then just die but will still idle, if you accelerate it dies or wants to,wait it will start and run well but returns not long after ,new fuel filter, changed internal pump of fuel tank new plugs and leeds does this sound like cas as this is what ive been told driving me crazy lol hellllllllpppppppppppp
usually when the cas stuffs out the car won't run at all. usually. Hows the dizzy cap and rotor button. might have a fouled up points.
cleaned them up but really they looked good anyway
hmmmm. have you reset the ECU? what diagnosis codes have come up too?
it did have speed sensor code and air con but reset and have gone not returned
how did you reset the ECU?
when i take to mechanic runs good should sell it to him lol
i followed instructions on this site i think maybe you posted?????????
maybe your CAT is blocked too? how old is it? if leads and plugs are stuffed then the car will run rich and that chews out your CAT. possibility.
cat short for? silly q?
catalytic covertor. at the end of your exhaust manifold. it joins the manifold to the exhaust pipe.
i have extractors
we've eliminated the sensors effectively. All thats left really is the AFM and the CAT. i'm just sussing out the CAT first.
ok ill check
you'll still have a CAT though. it'll be at the end of the extractors. if it rooted it'll make the car play up cos it gets blocked. when it totally collapses the car will be lucky to go 20km/hr. so is it old?Originally Posted by ghostmobile
whole exhaust is only six months old
are you sure it wasn't replaced from the CAT back. The whole thing was done from extractors to exhaust tip?
no just went out and checked is bloody old but would the car go well and die occasionally?
picking up new dizzy tomorrow wont hurt as it is old anyway
is there a way to test if it is blocked other than taking it off?
yep. that could be what your problem is. best way is to buy new gaskets for it and pull it out and have a look down the guts of it. the wire mesh inside will be all bent instead of dead flat. i reckon shes your problem.
gaskets aren't expensive. at the same time though you'd probably get them when you buy a CAT so keep the receipt incase you do need to buy a CAT and the gaskets come with it. If you end up needing a CAT buy a hi-flow one and put it in yourself. You may get a lukey one from repco. exhaust shops will charge about 300 to replace. might get one for 150 or so if luvky and throw it in yourself.Originally Posted by ghostmobile
