when you undo the filter, try to tip it with the screw hole upwards so most of the oil will stay in it
absolutely never run the engine with no oil in it
Ive had trouble with ryco filters with non return valves not working and dont use ryco anymore

do what i do, put paper towelling or newspaper under the filter. you still get a little oil on the chassis rail but it's minimal.

well just ged a bit of degreaser, it'll bring it up better than before. it costs nothign anyway. and another tip, if you put a bit of oil into the new filter beforew you put it on it helps speed up the oil pressure process not that it takes long anyway.

You are meant to put some old oil on the new filters gasket anyway or it wont seal properly

yah, but why use the old oil? when i change the filter i dip my finger in the new oil and smear it over the gasket and thread, then screw it on

is it recomended to use the old oil or new? as i see that the new oil would have clean propertys and would be in good condion so it wouldnt wear off quicker then old stuff
