First cylinder spark plug keeps popping out under load
Was thinking needs a heli coil kit.
Any other ideas as to why this could be happening

Alloy head - you need to 'crack the carbon' when removing the plugs. Undo them only about a quarter turn or so and retighten (a bit like tapping a thread using a tap or die). Repeat until you can unscrew the plug fully by hand without the socket drive. Don't back them out using a socket drive if they are resisting as you will remove the thread in the head along with the plug!

lol helicoil won't work, it will just end up falling inside the cylinder.

guess im doing something right if they havent fallen out over the 20+ years ive been using them .

The trick to doing a helicoil on a spark plug hole is not to drill it all the way through, leave a lip so the helicoil bottoms out and can't screw into the cylinder.

Drill? Helicoil? .......
Must be using the cheap ****...
A proper helicoil™ kit uses a tap like this:
images

Runs through the existing thread and chases through with the insert thread, bugger all effort on an alloy head.

A custom made insert holder using a hollow rod, cross section drilled for the insert tang and a tapped end so a bolt can be threaded in to hold the tang.
When you give the rod a tap to break it off, hold it in place and successfully pop it back out isn't hard to make either.
Even for those deep cop heads... $0.50 of scrap material is an invaluable tool.

I've only ever used the original style of helicoil kit with a drill and tap. And that was years ago, haven't had to use one in probably 20 years.
