    Unhappy It just wont start...

HI guys.... about 2 weeks ago i bought my first car an 86 berlina...
I had driven it a few times and decided to give it the cleaning of its life time.
I decided to degrease the engine and it came up beautiful!!!! But to my dissapointment was very hard to start once i had finished, i eventually got it goin and straight away put it in the garage, it was running like crap.
since then i have not been able to get it started.

    Things i have checked...
    - Dizzy cap... i wiped it dry and sprayed wd-40 in it, and replaced the rotor button which was split on both sides.
    - wiggled many plugs and hit them with the blow dryer
    -checked spark plugs

If any one has any ideas please, please help..... thank you..
p,s im still at school so i may not be able to return a reply until tomorrow afternoon.. thanks again, james:

    ahhhh this happnd 2 me
there is some cables near the dizzy that if it gets moister in it wont start or run good, just drie them and give it a good blow to get all dirt off. should work, or if there bit rusty allready give it a light sanding to get the rust off so it connects well

    Hi...
the areas that u told me to look for i have already dried and given a wobble, out of curiosity is one of these sensors the Crank Angle Sensor....
another thing that might help with the diagnosis is that my car is duel fuel, i dont know if that has anything to do with it but i spose any thing can help..
    thanks

but did u take the plugs off and look for rust in there, coz rust can stop proper connection and stuff up the running coz its connectd to the dizzy

cas im guessing would b low neve the bottom end of the block

but i highly reconmend giving the connections i said a checking and a quick sanding to clean up the conection points, i did this and had to get the RAA out to solve the prob and he tolled me these were the caulprets and he did this things and it workd ( this was after i wasd the engine to)

yeh ive taken the plugs off and dried them and they dont look rusted at all, they look a shiney silver...copper color.
It turns over fine just dont seem to be any spark in the bloody thing.
The plugs dont look or feel moist at all...
Is it possible that any of these sensors could have been fried by the water?

what about the spark plugs water might of workd down the side of the plugs and dampend them, so its not firing

i had the exact same problem. pull the plug off the top of the dizzy and dry the terminals. use a very small screwdriver and scrape the terminals a little to get the crap off. if you use wd40 or anything then make sure you blow it all out and dry the plug properly. this is the plug to your crank angle sensor. next pull the dizzy cap off, the rotor out. i think there is a plate then which the c/angle sensor is behind, pull it out if possible and dry it all really well.

Did you disconnect anything at all when cleaning? Did you have the hose in there or just Degreaser..

It cranks but it doesn't start, Won't even think about starting and idling it will just crank forever?

hey guys.... yeh i had the terminals off and ive dried them all, ive had the CAS plug off.... and dried that...also the plug right near it... i dont know what it is but i dried it....i also had to remove the rotor button and replaced it because it was way gone, i dried inside that and around it...
when i did the engine i sprayed degreaser over the engine and then washed it away...but i did use alot of water!!
Is it possible that a fuse could have blown that is stopping it from sparking????

ok, ill try again. so it will turn over but wont start? before i say anythin, the ignition system can give you a boot, so before you play with the wiring from this an that, make sure the ignitions off, an you should also disconnect the neg battery cable to prevent damage to the computer before you unhook any wires an that. but if theres water in the wiring somewhere, you jus got to go through, dryin them all, an hope for the best. check the fusebox an make sure nothings burnt out in there.

you said the plugs were a copper colour? plugs in good condition after nirmal wear should have a browny grey colour to them, so dont worry. have you got spark though? grab a spare plug, hook one of the leads up to it, earth against the engine or body, an turn the key. if no spark, take the lead runnin from the coil to the dizzy, hook your test plug up to that an try again.
if you have spark here but not before, theres a prob in either the dizzy, rotor, or the leads, or the CAS i guess. so youd have to check all them, sounds like you done that though

if you have spark the first time, turn the key an listen, you should hear the fuel pump going for about five seconds. squeeze the line runnin into the fuel rail an try again, you should feel it pressurise. with the dual fuel i dunno how is all set up but you should still be able to do all that. also you could check the gap on the plugs, should be 1mm.

if you dont have spark at all, run the computer self diagnostic. under your left kick panel is the comp. at the top on the front, turn the screw gently all the way anticlockwise, turn the key on. both lights should light up. if they dont thats another story. turn the screw gently all the way clockwise. take down what code it spits out, red is ten, green is one. so, 2 red 4 green is 24 ok? ill chuk it all down cos seen a few ppl asking...

    11 - CAS
    12 - AFM
    13 - Coolant temp sensor
    14 - Speed sensor
    21 - Ignition circuit
    23 - Throttle switch
    24 - Nuetral switch
31 - A/C in air cond models, satifactory operation in non a/c
    32 - Starter circuit
    34 - Detonation sensor (turbos)
    44 - satisfactory operation in a/c models

you should get to start with, 14, 23, 24, an 31 (if a/c). if nothing wrongs picked up youll get 31 (non ac) or 44 also. you can cancel them by goin through the procedure but it dont really matter for you atm.

guessin you might also get either 11 or 21. give that all a go if you want, hope it helps isolate the problem a bit for you. let us know how you go, if it does spit out 11 or 21 you can keep checking further along, but its jus a bit much to go into now... ah, cracked the 5-0...
