hey fellas, half thinking about importing a jap engine for my stock vl. where do i need to do this and how much will it cost me?
it depends on what type of jap motor ur lookin for,the rb30e ,or the rb30det,rb30dett rb26det rb25det there are a few there to look into and yes they all fit .try www.google.com and search for jap nissan motor imports
Real cars don't power the front wheels, they lift them
even better, there are half cuts at import wreckers going for decent prices, decent meaning you get everything you'll need, like loom, motor, and i think sometimes the box aswell. expect to pay in the $1000s though, not sure exact.

nope the rb30e is the stock1 in the vl and the turbo is a rb30et notace no D (rb30..D..et) the d repesents double over head cams which didnt come in the rb30. the rb30 had a single over head cam, the rb20 and rb25 have the d in the names coz they both had the double over head cam setup.Originally Posted by madsav

no worries, i didnt always wonder what the det stood for, double cam ????? turbo
Real cars don't power the front wheels, they lift them
A double overhead cam on the RB30 is acheivable by fitting a RB26 head. the RB26 does have a double overhead cam.Originally Posted by AirStrike
Also nissan didnt make a RB30ET, that was holdens idea (to turbo the RB30)
Correct me if im wrong
RB, SR, FJ, VG etc=engine series 26=numbers indicate litreage (2.6L in this case) D=indicates twin cam(if applicable) E=indicates electronic injection(if applicable) T=indicates single turbo TT=indicates a twin turbo setup. Same goes for other engines in Nissans range. Cheers
OK Holden went to Nissan Japan looking for a suitable motor for the upcoming new commodore (VL). They had heard that Nissan had a (heavily reworked) version of the 280zx engine which it was going to use in its upcoming skyline model in Australia. A deal was worked out and Nissan told them that there was also a 150kw turbo version being developed, Holden Immediately rushed back to Australia with an RB30ET in its hand luggage and set about creating the VL turbo.

yeah thats a good story ay! and the last comment was so true.
i didnt know the rb30et was holden designed, hrmmmmm you learn somethign new every day ay.
a half cut sounds the bezxt becaUse if you get just the motor you need the box still and loom and all the other little bits n peices

ahh that answers my questions further and beyond! cheers... so would i b after a RB30et? or try for the RB30det? and was does half cut mean?
rb30et would b what ur looking for, if u want the stock vl turbo motorOriginally Posted by nauta_boiVL
rb30det dosnt exist because the rb30 didnt have a double cam setup
and half cut is half a car pritty much, some1s got a cutter and sliced the car in half, so u get the frame off the engine bay and the motor with all the looms, pipes and brakets

ok, there is not rb30det, only et because the 'd' stands for double cam, 2 cam shafts which the rb30 does not hav but the rb26dett had twin cam because of the 'd' and the cylinder head off the rb26 will fit onto the rb30e or rb30et and then it will become either rb30det or just de. one 't' means it has one turbo and 2 't's meams twin turbo or 2 turbos.
a half cut is like when someone rams into the back of your car and wrecks it totally and then you just sell the front half of the car which is still good.
remember there was no factory rb30det only ones that people have modified. you are probably best just slapping a turbo onto your RB30e, that will give it more power and then eventually put on the rb26 head

RB30ET motors are making more than 500kw, so you dont need to go for a twincam head to make power.
is it hard to fit an rb26 head onto an rb30 motor??
An RB26 head will cost you over $2000
no rb30et are making bout 150kw at the rear wheel ?
RB30ET in standard form make 150 flywheel kilowatts
I think he meant, they have the potential to produce 500kw??Originally Posted by nauta_boiVL
