I have it done on my car.

It was already on it when I bought it though back in 2000.

I am thinking of replacing it with an 80mm or 90mm billet item.

unless you have other mods its a pointless mod to be doing because you will see very little if any gain over stock. And if you don't upgrade to a bigger diameter intake pipe and airbox etc it is also pointless.

I agree, and if more air goes in so must more fuel!!!

nothing is ever pointless.........every lil bit counts in getting power......i agree u wont notice much if u jus have the xf tb..... but theres alot more mods id do before i changed the tb........like exaust cai timeing cam so forth

thanks all for the posts, got it done in the end. having a prob getting my revs back down where they should be though, have wound everything i can down but still bout 1200rpm at idle. givin me the shits, any ideas on that one? mayb an air leak somewhere past the afm, i dunno.

agree with the more fuel comment, sucks like a mother ****a now, but eh, got the missus car to putt round in if short of cash. plan is to go the intake down to the bumper next, mainly did the mod because i had the throttle body lyin around an was bored, had heard some gain could come, but then everyone says somethin different an you never really gonna know til you try it out.

came up lookin real nice anyway, cleaned up the plenum chamber and intake manifold to get rid of all the cast marks then painted it all up alloy while i was in there. then the fuel rail an such painted up red to match exterior.

also any ideas on the larger intake pipe and how to get around the restriction caused by the reduced diameter where it flows through the afm? or is that jus somethin i gonna have to deal with?

I read somewhere that one or both of the red/green pipes is a water pipe. I will look into this further when I find where I read this (Ithink it was the nissan forum)

I agree with VL Davo, nothing is ever pointless...... just ask the ricers!

With us normal people, we look for every last bit of HP, because at the end of the day, it all counts !

If you have a rice cooker, its the same - every last ounce of plastic, fibreglass, speakers, subs, amps, screens, ps2, xbox, stickers. It all adds up to make the rice use more fuel than Brocky's Bathurst Commodores !!!:b:

Yeah I agree that no mod is "pointless" but for this mod to have a positive gain the current TB would have to be a restriction, which if it is would mean that the whole intake pipe and airbox and AFM are also restrictive and would need to be changed to larger diameter items when the TB is swapped over otherwise there will still be a restriction. Something can only flow as good as the narrowest part will allow.

i always think "is the extra power worth the extra fuel?" or "is the juice worth the squeeze?" an extra 2hp IMO isn't worth another $50 a week in fuel.
