has anyone seen or heard of a VL being supercharged instead of slaping on a turbo because i was thinking today about it and wondered what it would go like??
CRS make a kit for the VL.
how do they fare against the turbo's???
and wat site is this
hey bro, we supercharged a mates one. left it auto and got a bolt on supercharger with a wastegate and skyline gtr intercooler (off a mates gtr, was lying around) and ran 12psi. ran a low 13sec quarter. reckon bigger aftermarket fuel pump intercooler some head work and larger injectors we could get it into the 12 sec quarters. only hassles we had were gettin all the plumbing right although we did it oursleves and the battery had to be relocated to the boot
do you think it went better than a turbo? it would definately have better bottom end but whats the biggest advantage u rekon???
turbo is a heaps cheaper option, and wouldnt you need an engineers cert for the supercharger because it was not an option?
my web sitestuff on the XF throttle body conversion, calais interior and lots of other junk!
advantages are a couple in favour of supercharger. it's pretty much bolt on. with turbo you have to work out your plumbing and turbo size to reduce spool time. another advantage is you have the extra power from the moment you touch the accelerator. although like a turbo there is only so far you can go without modifying and strengthening the internals of the engine. IMO i like the supercharger for the power from start but after working around turbo's i like that sudden punch in the back when it kicks in. I suppose it comes down to your wallet and whats available to you.
Searching is a good option here. Been covered to very fine details. Low 13 second quarters.. 12 psi. What charger was this? I can't see the SC14 being capable of that.
not sure what charger it is, find out for u though. engineers certificate is a peice of cake to get and compared to turbos im not too sure. i like it but then the wastegate allows u to have the boost when u want it so its not straight up tourque. i guess it depends how u set it up and how much tiume u have to play with it
i saw a s/c kit a while ago on the net. Said it gave the standard VL motor 30rwkw, bringing the standard kW up to roughly 110rwkw, which is a little bit faster than a VS Ecotec ... which still isnt all that quick![]()
Anyone know the cost of a SC14?
Thanks

The Sc14 itself ranges from 200-350 dollars.
what quarters would the SC14 be capable of? and being such a small sc stock internals would last a while wouldnt they?
Probably obvious but remember people - If you're making it go faster, do the brakes so it can stop faster as well.. and probably the diff lol
yeah, people dont seem to factor in those things, you will need better breaks, the trans wont be able to cope, especially the auto. the diff will shit itself.

plus you'll have to change your belt setup. different belt hubs to accomodate your s/c drive belt. maybe even put a serpentine belt on.
The engineers certificate is a must if you are doing a power upgrade like a turbo or S/C even though the VL range had turbo as an option you will still need an engineers cert to turbocharge an NA. You apparently need one if you fit bigger wheels even (technically) but no-one seems to follow this rule and the cops don't usually enforce them unless you are on your P's and they feel like it LOL.
Oh and also this CRS kit will not bolt on with the P/S and A/C in the factory locations. which makes life a little harder but not impossible. I reckon with a fuel upgrade, exhaust, CAI and filter and an aftermarket ECU you could squeeze 50rwkw from the CRS kit.

there was a supercharged vl in street commodores magazine a fair while ago had the plates ovl087 i think came from goulburn...was bright blue but it ran a good blower.......
ther crs kits are shithouse they only bring it up to a stock vlt power output..... and thats pushing the lil chargers to the limitunless u got a few grand for a good blower and engine uprgrades turbo is much beter option...
the crs kits are $1500 aswell.....stock vlt setups run for lower then that![]()
Yeah, I will stick to my Turbo thanks.
ive been thinking about this and i would love to do this in time to come but i was thinking about the P/S and AC pumps being moved, i could live with no AC but the P/S wherer would be the best possition to move it to and how much would that most likly cost,
http://www.rodshop.com.au/superchargerb30.htm
there is the details on the castlemain kit
and one more thing,
would there be any way of getting extractors to fit in behind that pipe or would a new intake pipe be needed or is that pipe spec tuned in length and size?

mate of mine did this 2 his r31... gave it like 117 rwkw and it was a head case having 2 make up braket's etc and no sean the extractors wont fit around unless u modify them.. mate also had that problem, how his car is turbo and gets 144rwkw (thats with turbo and manifold only no injectors or nething)
Clint, did he have a red skyline? he also ran no power steering and a minispool? cant rember his name but i brought some springs and shocks off him for my old r31.
