Dim Lights...?

hey ppls, i've had this for a while so its time to fix it...
ALL my lights are dull... My dash lights are dull, and my headlights are dull, they look fine whenu look at them, but i can barely see stuff on the road.. lol
i was thinking i wouldnt be the globes would it?
I was thinking of buying new ones, but i dont wanna waste money if it aint the globes that has the problem..

For the dash, i changed a couple of lights to blue, but its still dull, and these lights are very powerful.. so im thinkin its somethin else..

Also, could someone help me on the location for the earth wiring for the front lights, i got some weird stuff happenin to them.. :b:

with the headlights you get a buildup of muck inside on the glass lenz and the silver reflector part
the light unit can be taken apart and cleaned but the silvering is usually damaged by heat from the globes, keep mineral turps away from the silvering

the parking light holder is usually spoiled by the heat and a replacement isnt available

both genuine and non genuine headlight units are available, non genuine in melbiurne from SSS autoparts

How many volts at the battery when the car is running??

Less than 13.5v and it's proberly ur alternator..

never thought of it being my alternator.. i'l have to check it out.. i checked out new headlights and they want $97 each for genuine ones.. so thats pretty good.. but i'l check the volts first...

I bought the phillips globes that are around $45 and they are a strong pure white and a massive improvement over the candlelight type globes that were in it, also taking the lenses off and cleaning them in the sink will help slightly. Also the silver stuff inside the headlight is also usually the culprit (the aftermarket ones mostly) but even holden genuine headlights can lose they're reflectivness after 20 years or so.

i have the same problem but my alternator is charging really well, but sometimes when i rev it they go brighter wat could it be

as all above have said maybe lenses and reflectors old and dull.
but seeing how you have mentioned the dash lights and other lights are dull and vlwalky is saying when he revs they go brighter, the main cause for this is bad earth, you need to remove all earth points e.g. the engine block, the body near the battery and the battery leads and the alternator connection clean all of them and replace them making sure all are clean and secure.
other causes include faulty and/or low charged battery, faulty regulator.
