Hey guys,
Just toying with the idea at the mo, but has anyone got any pics or any info on any car with one.
I have acsess to a mould of a race seat, just seems like a cheaper way of doing it, rather than forking out $$ to buy some reclinables for the front and rear.
So you wanna put 4 racing seats in your car? In Aus you would need an engineers certificate because you are changing the amount of passengers the car can carry (from 5 to 4). You want to get the mould and make your own seats? I dunno if that would be a good idea safety wise as proper seats are up to the ADR standard (in Aus) and are tested for strength and crashworthyness.
just my 2c
Yer just something im toying with at the mo.
I no what your saying with the whole ADR ozzy thing, but its not that harsh over here yet. YET, ha ha.
I have acess to a mould and have been in the fibregalss industry for the past 8.5 years, so it would be a little cheaper for me to go this way, other than buying 4 reclinable seats, and then retrimming them to suit.
Just looking for opinions, but not worried about the legal side of things, as if there is one thing I have learnt in building cars, its do it right, and do it right the first time. It may not be legal in your country, but by all means, it will be legal and safe if its going in my car.
y not mould a new bucket type backseat of of a new car.......ive seen the 4 buckets before jus dont have any pics.......they look pretty cool but....
im not entirely sure i follow what you are doing but i have some pics somewhere ill scan in when i find them.
keep in mind that while roadworthy conditions might not be as tight, youll be doing stuff all for safety by not following compliances.
found a pic. small but you get the idea. the car is a vl walky (MR355). Keep in mind the owner is claimed to have put $270,000 into the car.
Yer thanks mate, have seen MR355 in a mag and like what hes done. But thinking a little bit along these lines (see picture) it's just, I can get hold of the mould so going to save alot on materials and stuff.
And safety wise, like I said, where you guys mite get pulled up for it, I probably wont, as they arn't as hard on us yet.
But by all means, it will be very legal, and very safe. Take a look at the rest of my car. Does it look like i've cut any corners so far.....
baaaaaaaaaaaa
So you are saying it will be safe and legal, yet in the same breath telling us you dont get pulled up as much over there yet, suggesting you arent really that sure about it? i struggle to see how the two go hand in hand.
I also understand there is a big difference between something dont properly, and something done legally. Hell, a bloke could shoot someone with perfect accuracy and style, he did it properly, didnt cut any corners. Doesnt make it legal.
Just want our lads to be legal mate... in the interest of public safety and your own safety... wouldnt wanna lose a member now!
Okay, we have to get a warrant of fitness in New Zealand every 6 months on a car that is over 5years old, which means going to a testing station and getting things checked. I cannot see how putting two race seats in the back of a car would cause it to be unsafe. For starters you would still be using the same brackets to mount the seats, so whats the problem??? Seatbelts would still be in same position, and still using the same brackets.
Im confused as to why you think this is such a problem???
From what I have heard on here, and other forums, you guys get dealt with alot harder than we do over here, only things you get pulled up over here for are speed, overly loud cars and extremly low cars.
yeah damn mexicans. we get pulled up for the same things but here if you convert from 5 seats to 4 you have to have it engineered. Even if you change from a leaded engine to a newer unleaded engine you have to get an engineers report done.
I guess you lads have it too easy!
