Hi Guys,
My VL wagon has been presenting a slight problem over the time we have owned it (approx 6-7 months)
we bought it as the second owners from new.
The couple who we bought it off had put a new trans in it about two weeks before we picked it up, there is a complete warranty etc but being a mechanic (specialising in mechanical design and modifications, rather than standard maintenance) i want to do all work my self.
The issue is when the car is first driven (COLD), it holds 1st gear far too long for my liking before it changes up to 2nd.
2nd to third is fine.
this will continues until the car has done about 5 or more km's.
the forth gear (temperature sensor works and allows the 4th gear over drive thingy come in once the trans has got to 70 degrees).
Can people in the know advise me of what is causing this cenario with 1st holding too long when cold and recommend how to adjust and fix it.
i'm planning on doing a fuild dump so access to the unberside of the fluid pan will occur.
everyones imput is muchly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Greg
how high do the revs go in first before it hits second?
hey guys,
it hold revs to about 3000 rpm and then changes noticably, not a clunk but not a smooth shift.
Any suggestions, this is a pretty new trans, the original owners spent $2500 on it at a trans place in Adelaide CBD.
want to try and fix it my self.
Could it be just due for a fluid change?
Regards
Greg
im not a big man in the trans parts but to me it sounds like it could be a electronical prob
or
a while ago my cosin had a prob with his car it wouldnt get out of first, it turnnd out to be a vacum hose had poped off, try checking all ypur pipe on the trans for cracks/leaks or iregular sizing (sweeling)
could be just its got a strechd part in a pipe making it narrower not allowing ampel fluid though,
when the oil heats up it makes the pipe heat up and more flexable alowing for the pipe to expand and allow more oil though

Yes check the vacum line to the trans-air leak or the vacum modulator...Originally Posted by VL Berlina 5speed

Thanks guys,
I'll do a bit of investigation regarding Vac lines and see what i come up with.
It certainly is a good start in my book.
Cheers, I'll inform you guys of what i find.
