Hey all,
Newbie to the forums. I'm going to get a vl commodore as a first car in the next few months. However, i ride mountain bikes a fair bit and would like to be able to transport my bike in the boot. However, to my knowledge, all vl's and predominantly all commodore sedans came with the option of only folding down the middle seat is the rear, when i really need a 60/40 split.
Is it possible to easily change this to a 60/40 split or replace the rear seats with another commodore or similar for limited costs?
Any info would be welcome
cheers
The short answer is no.
The long answer is that behind the back seat is a part of the chassis and this can't be cut/removed without causing structural weakness in the car. It could probably be done at great cost and would require a 1/2 rollcage or similar structural reinforcement to be added and would cost more than what the cars worth.
Get a wagon if you can or get a bike rack towbar.
i put my bmx bike in the back seat area. or u can just get a proper rack that connects to the tow ball thing. also, it you took off ur front wheel, u may be able to jam ur bike in there(boot).
4 options:- 1. get a wagon
2. take the front wheel off and have it sticking out the boot.
3. get a goose neck
4. get a bike rack for the roof.
there is no way you can convert the rear seat.
Fair enough. Thought that was going to be the case but was hopeful anyway. Reason i am shying away from a wagon is that leaving say 5k of bikes in an old commodore wagon for any amount of time isn't a real smart idea, but looks like that might be my best bet short of running a bikerack.
(I really dislike bikeracks after watching a mate's bike go flying off his rack to be totalled on the highway, so lucky no-one was behind us)
I'd suggest getting a set of quick release hubs on your bike. I've got them front and back on my cannondale and the frame fits nicely in the back of the sedan. I've got the same attitude you do about leaving the bike in a visible place so i won't put it in the wagon.
a rollcage doesnt increase structural integrity.Originally Posted by ucwepn
I recline the front passenger seat all the way back - and fed the bike in from the drivers rear door.
I have a bed sheet I use to keep the grease off the velour

So its bolted though the floor of the back seat area as well, can you please explain how this will not strengthen the chassis?
maybe i dont know what a roll cage is! i thought its purpose was the protect the occupants in the case of a rollover. didnt realise they were used to strengthen the chassis. guess i was confused with chassis strengthening. lol. silly old me.
